Considering this anime is meant for kids, they would need to change things like that...

Although, back in the 90s, this might have gone unchanged. There were many adult things present in cartoons that just flew over our heads. Those were crazy times.

Also, need to say this again.

This is. A show. For KIDS. What do you expect?!

We're not talking about sex here, but swimsuits. I hope US kids never go to the pool or the beach, it could be bad for them.

Never had any problem with swimsuits in animes like Pokemon here, I don't understand why this was censored.

Well, it could get boys aroused and girls thinking they need to be that way to arouse the boys, at such a young age too. Even the clip shows that. So it would indirectly imply leading to thoughts like that...

Well, there was that episode that was cut entirely, which besides giving James cleavage, also displayed a lot of girls in swim suits as well as a beauty contest revolving around girls and swimsuits. So there is that.

That episode was aired. And only James inflatable breast scenes were cut. No other swimsuit edits were done to pokemon. Infact. There was a season 1 episode of Lorelie, in pokemon, who had large breasts. And the camera was intentionally above her all the time. Not censored. Aired. And still left alone on DVD sets.

Censoring shows, like this now, is stupid. I've seen more dumb crap though. Beast Wars was censored in reruns. And it's an american show. Yokai Watch airs on Disney XD. I say they forced them. They censored re-airings of Power Rangers. Why they change the guys with cooks. Was the digital paint team too embarased to digitaly touch up muscle guys? THe subliminal message they get now is cute girls want food.

Again this shouldn´t surprise anyone, this is nintendo we are talking about

Three things I learned from this thread.

Hasbro/Dentsu USA is owned By Nintendo. People don't understand censorship and how it works. Adults care a lot about children cartoon show.

Yeah, I heard it was aired eventually, but was not initially shown in the show's first running, and if I am not mistaken, it also didn't see a VHS or DVD release. Even without the James section of it, it was a little out of place for a kids show.

Censoring things in a situation like this, I can see why it was done.

This is pretty tame compared to that one Pokemon episode where James had some big boobs.

That didn't even air in America at all right?

Currently most hyped for: FFXV and Zelda U

It did not, it was censored by Pokemon Company back in the day. It was due to many various reasons ranging from James' breast and grown man eyeing a 10-year-old.

This is ridiculous.

Americans are so prude

It's ironic that the U.S is inclined to be prude with media yet liberial with ethics while Japan is the complete opposite. Take one step into american society, and that prudness is literally non-existant and extremly looked down on.

I think it's a little too soon to expose them to these sort of some what mature things, like women and men showing a great amount of skin as well as well... developed figures.

You could argue that it's natural though. Bodys are bodys. Everyone has one, theres no shame in it. Body positivity it a good thing for a kid to learn. Any sexual connotation would fly right over a childs head anyways. When i was small my parents used to be naked around me a lot (nothing wierd or sexual about it of course, just having a bath toghether, changing, whatever..) and it's just normal. I also used to run around naked at the beach all the time, as did all the other kids. Sexuality never even entered our heads. We were all about smimming and sandcastles. (I'm from euope though, maybe we are more lenient with this kind of thing, but it really just strikes me as natural, nothing sexual about it at all.)

While I don't really mind the bikini change for the girls either way, the one for the burly, shiny men into....a cook....is just silly.

I don't mean to say the body is unnatural, I agree that it is. And I think it is good for kids to learn about the body and differences between males and females, but I also think there is a time and place for that. I mean, there is sex ed, right? : P And I would agree that sexual connotation could and would likely fly over kids' heads. Heck, it did for me. Though, since it is aimed for kids, and perhaps it doesn't fly by all the kids, is likely why it is censored. And this time, I side with that, but that's just me.

And if I saw you naked when I was younger, I would have likely covered my eyes and be very embarrassed, haha...

What a shitty world we live in. On one hand we censor stupid things like this because we have to protect our kids, because god forbid us if they see a boob in a cartoon, but not in any sexual way just someone taking a bath. But on the other hand we let them see movies about war, people killing people, we teach them that it's fine to have guns at home and we even encourage them to practice how to shoot them, we let them use the internet and have smartphones, chat with their friends or whoever they want and all of that is fine?
I grew up watching Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball, Ranma, Sailor Moon and so on. There were some characters in those that were perverts, obsessed with women and boobs and so what? I thought they were funny and a bit odd, I liked boobs too, no big deal.
I find people obsessed about protecting the children to have a serious problem. Kids shouldn't be treated like that at all, because there is nothing wrong with those cartoons, FFS have you seen Adventure Time? It's for kids right? Well I have felt embarrassed watching some of them, imagining what a child could learn from them, sometimes the message is just horrible.
I haven't seen yokai but if the only thing they censor is that it is simply stupid, there is nothing sexual going on. I see a future where all the cartoons take place in the south pole, everyone will be wearing so many clothes the only thing you would see is their faces. Happy now? XD
