Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do people want Link to be a girl?

Still I think a main game with only Female protagonist will never happen due to Frozen lawsuits.

Now seriously I've never heard anyone complaining about Link as a protagonist so I don't really feel like changing him would be a good choice, the Boy that saves the PrinceSS is always accepted by everyone, omophobic people don't lose their shit and everything is right. Personally I've never found Link's character to be misleading...

I think part of it is that he's a different person almost every game so unless the Legend of Zelda world is sexist in how it picks its heroes there's no particular reason that Link couldn't be female for one iteration. If Link were a single established character (like Samus which you bring up) then I doubt it would be as highly suggested. It's because with the character it makes sense and if you have a character which is a hero chosen by destiny with a fresh person everytime and you never get a female hero that seems to say something about how this world chooses its saviors.

...

For another angle on it, let's say you had a game series focused on doctors, and every game a doctor was chosen by God to be the greatest doctor in the world and cure some disease of the time. That game has gone on 12 iterations and thus far every single doctor chosen was male. Given the estimate that about 66% of doctors are male the chance you'd randomly get a guy 12 times is .66^12 or 0.68%. Such a series to some would indicate a statement on the part of the developers on who can and cannot be chosen as the greatest doctor in the world.

The game always talks about a prophecy where a BOY will save hyrule. And Zelda is always a GIRL who also saves hyrule they have equal roles to play.

I don't really mind a female Link, but why not just make a Zelda game where you play as Zelda instead? People weren't happy at Linkle, because she wasn't Link. (And by people, I mean Feminists and SJW's.)

Because a female link is more political correct for some BS reasons. Would be the first girl which shuts her mouth for an entire game though. But you should adres this question at Marvel entertainment they are very good at changing existing characters so maybe they have better reasons like sales.

Female Thor and Male Thor aren't the same thing people are asking towards Link though. Fem Thor is a different character. The Title is whats interchangable. Just like the Green Lanturn corps. Everyone is a Green Lanturn. But they're not saying Kyle, Hal, or John are the same character. They're the Green Lanturn's, for Earth.

Unless you're refering to alternate universe characters. Which Zelda does all the time. You're still not altering the original character. Just one alternate incarnation, would be female. Think Adventure Time's gender swap stories Ice King makes up. Finn isn't changed into Fionna.

I'd like a link for that, because I haven't been able to find anything with a simple google search.  If that's the case then I guess at least Nintendo has remained consistent within their own mythos.

There have been about a dozen different canon versions of Link. Link is more than a single person; Link is a vessel for the forces of good. Samus is a single person.

Link has virtually no personality. He has never been overtly macho, sexual, cocky or show any traits that define a gender either. The only time you get to see him speak (not hear) is during interactions with NPCs, and these conversations tend to be pretty gender-netural anyway.

When you see people asking for a female Link, are they asking for the option to play as a female character, or to make Link officially female in a new iteration? Because I see nothing wrong with the former, based on what I said above. Until Nintendo gives us Zelda: Other Z, when Link is given the voice and personality of Justin Bieber, there isn't a strong argument for a largely silent character with few defined traits and is ever changing to not give players the option.

As a minority gamer, it is an extremely big deal to me to be able to create MY avatar in a game with a customizable main character. Being forced to play as a white male character in such games tends to be a big turnoff to me. Therefore, I can see why there is a crowd out there that want to be represented better.

Being a man is politically incorrect WTF.
