Wow, this thread is in desperate need of some context. This statement was made after he and his dev team tried to get the new Binding of Issac: Afterbirth to run on the Wii U, Vita, and New 3DS. The game apparently could not run well on any of the platforms which is why he made this statement. It was not some random Wii U bashing as some have suggested here. I'm not saying that his comments are necessarily accurate, but I just wanted to let people know the background before they rip this guy.

you know what the Binding of Issac is right? it is not a graphic heavy game whatsoever, so that makes zero sense. it should be able to run on practically anything haha

It's not a matter of the graphics, but more of the effects that are going on in the game. Afterbirth introduced a lot of different combinations of items that produce some crazy effects, which is probably something that the Vita or 3DS could keep up with in the thick of fighting, at least not without slowdown (I hear the 3DS version already has some slowdown). Now, I'm sure the Wii U could probably handle it, especially given games like Bayonetta 2.

Clearly he is comparing the Vita to just the Gamepad.

Makes perfect sense. Nintendo hardly has the money or engineering talent/staff to develop a competitive console. All of their consoles use antiquated parts. Whereas with Sony they have the money and very talented hardware engineering staff to develop cutting edge products at decent manufacturing costs.

Games like Mario Kart 8 or Smash Brothers look good on Wii U. PS Vita also has a lot great looking games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Killzone: Mercenary or LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. I think it is normal that a home console should be more powerful than a handheld. Wii U is more powerful than PS Vita but not by much imo.

Good thing that an opinion doesn't mean anything in this situation...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Then how did Ubisoft port Watch_Dogs for the Wii U if the console is not much more powerful than a Vita???

The Ps Vita is powerful but not as powerful as the Wii U which is a home console.
And with this i hope you can see the differences:

His statement is relatively ambiguous from a possible different viewpoint ...

If he's coming from the HD twins then an 800+ GFlops difference is easily bigger than 100+ GFlops between the WII U/Vita ...

That would be an atypical way to look at it, in my opinion. Usually  "performance-difference" depends much more on whether or not you can meet a minimum requirement for a certain level of performance. If the 100 GFLOP difference allows you to remove/alleviate a bottleneck, while the 800 GFLOP difference does not, then it seems kind of deceptive to use the phrase "not much more powerful" in that context.

In fact, if we were to assess things linearly like that, then the difference between the PS4 and XBO is about (give or take some very marginal degree of error) the same difference between the XBO and Wii U, which when it comes to real-world performance is obviously not true.

As it is now, the Vita does much less at 540p than the Wii U at 720p. Just like the XBO does more at 900p than the Wii U does at 720p, and the PS4 with respect to the XBO 1080p vs. 900p.

Binding of Isaac dev

Edit: I just learned something from looking at his twitter profile - never knew he was the dev for Cave story wow.

Making a poor quality port of something shouldn't let you say you were a "dev" on it.

Damn Right. Pixel developed Cave Story. All by himself. And it's 100x better than anything that Binding of Isaac clown could ever make.

I don't know. Vita owner since day one (PSTV owner, too!) and I've seen some big compromises on PSVita versions on PS3/360 games. Meanwhile the WiiU has been able to (usually) run games as good or better. It's not in PS4 territory but definitely not Vita calibre.
