Second game in the TR reboot didn't even get the same accolades compared to the second game in the uncharted series. BTW who had a better survival horror game in 2013??

In one post you say TR released after the last Unchartered. Then you turn right around and compare it to Unchartered 2?

The gaming media is a lot less forgiving this time around.  They don't toss out the 9s and 10s as much as they used to.

that is in terms of how it was recieved over its first game compared to RoTR over the reboot. not a direct comparison to each other. and dont worry if game is worth 9 and 10 it will get it, even in "these times" ND outscored with last of us over the reboot and UC4 will be 90 atleast Heck even the worst scoring uncharted game has scored better than best Tomb Raider game 88 and 86. ND know their shit they are competing with themselves.

Hard to tell anything before playing both games. But for me, the UC trilogy is much better than TB reboot.

I miss the old TB of the PS1/PS2 days.

Xbox Magacine will give it a 10/100, but i expect a 94 anyways.

Dude, look at the Gameplay

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL46dpNEPPA

it has multiplayer, better graphics, better directed, better story, better animations, better cutscenes, better sales 10:1,  better everything.

RoTR is a good game, but really your Post should be, WAS IT A DAMN MISTAKE TO RELEASE IT ONLY ON XBOX?.

It doesnt get the sales that deserve the game. if i am a RoTR Developer and i see my marketing team make stupid decisions like that, really i would be pissed, i did so much afford and work in it and it doesnt get the reward for it. After Uncharted 4 this game will be outdated, 1 year old game that nobody wants anymore.  Did you play The Last of Us? Dude.. i think when you finish the Game you should reconsider your post

Yeah.  I played TLoU.  Got it twice, actually.  Once on PS3 and again on PS4.  IWas it a year old game that nobody wanted anymore?  Because it sold really well on PS4.  TR Definitive Edition did pretty well, too.

The thing is, I've played EVERY single Uncharted game.  Even the PS Vita game.  Drake's Fortune was the second game I got for my PS3.  I finished it before it even had trophies.  I've played TLoU.  I've played every Tomb Raider, ever (except the Gameboy games).  There's a good chance I'm wrong.  That's why I said BOLD PREDICTION.  But in the responses, people who haven't played RotTR are telling me I need to play Uncharted 4 BEFORE I make a prediction.... Uh, how does that even work?

So it's Uncharted and it's not held back by the PS3.  That's great.

-Batman Arkham Knight wasn't held back by 7th gen hardware and it started off great and then fell apart.  Great metacritic score but the game is (imo) the worst of the series.

-inFamous Second Son wasn't held back by 7th gen hardware and it started off great.  My second PS4 game purchase (after Tomb Raider!)In my opinion, it was the worst inFamous game, ever.

-Metal Gear Solid V looked amazing.  I bought Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain on day one.  Great metacritic score but, in my opinion, the worst MGS game, ever.  And I have been playing that series since the NES.

-Halo V.  I haven't purchased it yet but people were complaining about that game as well.

Those are just some of the high profile examples of games that (despite reviewing well fail to deliver--IN MY OPINION).  I have more.  This gen has done a great job of getting people's hopes up and letting them down.  Naughty Dog has a fantastic track record but people who haven't played it (OR Tomb Raider) are quick to give the edge to them.  I'm deep into RotTR and I don't want to beat it.  I want it to last forever.  Uncharted 4 will probably beat it.  If it does, they will have to release something truly amazing.  If anybody can, ND can.  But no franchise is invincible.  Look at Gran Turismo.

Bring this thread back next year.  Laugh at me or whatever.  I'll still be here.  Maybe I'll laugh with you.

The same can be said for any first iteration of a series on new hardware, and, far more often than not, it doesn't lead to a drastically bigger game world or adventure. Those usually come later in a console's lifetime, when the developers have a better grasp of what the hardware is capable of.

No. They had stated long ago that the PS3 hardware was holding them back. I always thought it was a bold statement, but these guys were considered magicians for putting so much into a linear single player experience. Naughty Dog should be given the benefit of the doubt given their pedigree. Unlike most other franchises Sony and Naughty Dog feel confident in their ability to create new franchises that they can let Uncharted go. The same cannot be said for their competitiors and that includes Square with Crystal Dynamics.

I think you're missing the point. The point isn't that more cannot be done with new hardware; it's that it takes time (often 4-5 years) of a console's life cycle before we see any games that are significantly "bigger" than what we had last gen. For example, Fallout 4's world, according to Bethesda, is roughly the same size as Skyrim's. The fact that Skyrim was held back by last gen hardware didn't result in a drastically bigger game when Bethesda's first 8th gen RPG came around; rather, the big jump in size (from New Vegas to Skyrim) came during the same console generation. Generally speaking, the big jumps in content only come when a developer has time to get settled in and used to the hardware.

I have absolutely no idea what the second half of the post is meant to be other than...I guess a jab at Tomb Raider...so I'll leave that to the side.

The second part just meant that Sony isnt afraid to let go of particular franchises. They are quite fond of making new IP's unlike others. If you've ever listened to Yoshida, he's big on that. Its what makes them different compared to MS, Nintendo, Square and others.

(in order of bolded)

You made this entire thread because you're really enjoying TR. Saying 1 game WILL be better than another based only on the fact that you've played one is nonsense, I don't see why you don't understand that criticism. If I play TLOU I can't say 'This game is so good, ROTR just can't be better' You'd have to at least see reviews of what people are saying about it. You can say that you will most likely like TR more than Uncharted 4 but you must admit it's far out to say that Metacritic will score U4 lower just because you liked TR.

Uncharted 3 was held back by PS3. They used pretty much all of the resources at their disposal all the time, and that was in 2011 (TLOU looks pretty much exactly the same as U3)

'Will probably' So you're aware it'll probably get a higher metacritic, but you still think you will prefer TR, then why tie metacritic to this thread when it's obviously just your own opinion?

Out of every GT game, 3 has scored 90 +, GT6 and GT5 got 81 and 84. Yet GT5 sold butt tonnes, we all know GT6 was awfully timed.

-How can I predict if I play Uncharted 4?  If I play it, the thread would be called "In my opinion, Uncharted is better/worse because.....".  I'm not saying U4 is worse than RotTR.  I'm just guessing that--based on what I've played of Tomb Raider, Uncharted won't be  able to beat it.  I only played one.  Oh, I don't mind the criticism.  I enjoy the discussion.  This whole thread is just me making one big guess.  Like saying my friend would win in a fight because I've seen him fight.  I have no idea what his competition can do but I have faith in him.

-Uncharted was held back by the PS3.  Okay.  I never once denied that.

-I'm using Metacritic because it's something we can physically see.  We can say "According to this, d21lewis was right/wrong."  There's the possibility that I'll love Uncharted 4 more than RotTR.  If so, that's great.  I'm not blinded by anything.  If the game is better, I'll enjoy it and I'll admit it.  No big deal.

-I'm sure every GT game is great.  It's been the dominant racing game since 1998.  But, critically, it's been beaten by Forza ever since Forza 3.  Hence, every franchise an be beaten by another franchise--aka not invincible.

THAT is a bold prediction. While I'll agree when ROTR releases on ps4 I'll buy it and I'll massively enjoy it but I just can't see it being as enjoyable as Uncharted, that franchise is on a different level, I just can't see it getting below 86 meta which ROTR currently sits.

Uh huh. Skyrim also came out in 2011, and was four years ahead of Fallout 4. The world size is pretty much the exact same (and honestly, in terms of useable terrain, probably leans towards Skyrim since a large portion of Fallout 4's map is bodies of water).

And I get that that's the main point of your second half, I'm just not sure how it's related to a discussion on whether U4 will be graded more highly than RotTR...at all. Sony and Naughty Dog's attitude towards letting go of a particular franchise has no bearing on review scores, other than perhaps reviewers are less likely to get fatigued of a certain formula. Considering this is the fifth Uncharted game within the last eight years, I seriously doubt that will play into Uncharted's favor going up against a reboot that's on its second installment.

I could see it, quite honestly. I suppose time will tell, but critics have been getting increasingly harsh on games that don't significantly innovate in some way (with the possible exception of Smash Bros), and UC4 looks to be very much a prettier version of what we've seen before.

I personally wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't be surprised either.

Either you didn't play Uncharted 1 to 3 or haven't seen Uncharted 4, if you claim it to be very much just a prettier version of before.

Or, you know, there's the distinct possibility that someone simply holds a different opinion than your own.

Same third person gunplay, same climbing and movement mechanics, and more jazzed up set pieces with slightly more player freedom (i.e. you can choose one of two paths to go forward while driving a car as opposed to just one) with a ridiculous amount of property damage caused. No, I think I'm pretty safe in saying it looks like last gen Uncharted with a fresh coat of paint.
