Would indeed be great. Would love to play some old ps2 games again,  trophy support would be the perfect excuse. 

Still, not sure if this is actually the route sony will take when they can sell ps2 games over psn. Will remain hopeful though. 

Just to put this out there, the PS4 bluray drive CAN actually read PS1/CD's, it just doesnt support audio cd playback.

Would be really great, that should be the same for PS2 as well then.... I assume it is all software related, the hardware all actually being there.

I think trophy support would be for "enhanced" downloaded version, disk based emulation would just run the game with better frame rate and resolution when possible (it would still be great).

Automated trophies must be really aweful.

Pulling disc ID from an inserted CD/DVD allows for parsing a server side database of games and associated region/title,which could be used to pull down specific configurations per game, or of course, licensing purposes.

They wouldn't just give away trophy packs for free. Trophies have a certain value to them which is why there are rules for developers based on price and content to begin with. So either the trophy support will not happen with disc emulation, or  there won't even be disc emulation to begin with.
