Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Sony enforcing an OS throttle on bandwidth?

Has anyone else notice that the PS4 always clocks in at and downloads at a fraction of your total bandwidth(35.3 out of 105mbps = 33%)? I've down substantial testing at this point, and verified that the ethernet port that I have my PS4 plugged into SHOULD be receiving ~94mbps (every other device i plugged into this port). This is not a networking issue, its not WiFi, packet loss, or internal network QoS.

I've contacted my ISP and they confirmed that I should be receiving full speeds. Other gaming networks and sites run at the full speed, and before my isp upped my speeds from 50->105, i was getting a proportionally smaller fraction of my max bandwidth.

I contacted sony support today and was told:
"We do not 'throttle' speeds."
"The PS4 does not take any more or less bandwidth than it needs."

So the tech support both attempted to deny any form of QoS, while simultaneously admitting to it?

Are you using wifi? I've always had really slow speeds on Sony servers with wifi, I still haven't tried with a cable, my place has dozens of yards of it all over anyway.

Nope. Its plugged into a Cat6 line that clocks  >= 94mpbs (the only ethernet laptop i could find only has a 10/100 port).

I've tried multiple devices on that exact line and its always the same story (PS4 is a fraction of the speed).

No, I just started the download of the Tearaway Unfolded Demo and it uses almost 100% of my 50mbit/s connection:

Maybe you're unlucky with the servers? That is, maybe the servers are busy or there's throttling on the server side. Or maybe you location in relation to the servers is bad... Which I suppose wouldn't affect speed at all. >_>

What does the network test clock you at?

I do not have the issue either. But Sony does prioritize some downloads over others. If you go back and download an off the wall game it downloads much slower than a newer more popular game from my experience

I'm usually dowloading at about 32-48mbit/s from PSN, which is ok for me, but my max is 200mbit - my cable connection actually achieves that most of the time.

I think they limit how fast a user can dl at a time from their servers, but it's certainly not implemented at OS level, as I can easily dl at 150mbit/s and up from other websites with my PS4.

Yeah I get 20 on my PS4. Get 240 on my PC. Not like it needs more than 20 anyway so at least that.
