Forums - Sony Discussion - Digital Foundry: Hands-on With PS4's PS2 Emulation (Confirmed)

Well I have seen a few of the "I am not buying it twice since I already bought it on PSone or PS2/3 so it should be free" comments and while it would be nice you are not entitled to play your old games on a new system. The original game was purchased to play on that platform and that platform only... it has done it's job and you can continue to play it on that platform. I just don't get the mindset of some people, entitlement is rampant and it's disgusting.

Trophy support means it will be limited bc. Someone has to manually define the trophies, and the data block that triggers them.

Also, besides ps1/2 classics.... they will encounter the same licensing issues xb1 does.

Where there is anything about backwards compability? This is emulation. PS4 is not reading PS1 or PS2 games like the PS3 did, if you have PS1 or PS2 original games you still can do nothing with them on your PS4.

Oh boy, lets not argue semantics. Obviously its the idea of playing old Playstation games on a new Playstation machine.

Something only a desperate company would add, or so its said.

There's a massive difference between Xbox BC and PS BC. The PS1 and PS2 Iibrary are just insane. That said it won't matter all that much since most of the big games have already had an HD port.

No, there are a bunch of notable PS3 games that havent been ported.

It would be nice to have BC support with all those upgrades.

I still have Persona 3 FES and DQ8 for ps2 which I never played. I could play them on ps2, yet why not with better load times and 1080p compatible output. However I didn't have time for them when they came out, still don't have time for even more long games.

I'll probably spend a few bucks to play the old burnout games again. I don't expect it to be free, but it would be nice if you could buy a license to use the old disk at a discount or buy the emulator. I can also just buy them again, PS2 Burnout was fun. I don't mind spending money on fun again. I've also re-bought PC games on GoG for the convenience of not having to figure out how to get them to run on modern windows myself. (Or find the disks in that moving box under the stairs)

bc is bc as far as im concerned. PS4 ends up playing PS1/PS2 games is still BC. So the same people that gave Microsoft crap for BC, should have the same stance on Sony and BC imo. If this even leads to full fledged ps1/ps2 bc that is

its the only way not to be hypocritical imo

there is no lincensing issue

MS themselves said they have to negotiate licensing for every single xb1 bc game...

to get them into the servers and downaloading them because it wouldnt be possible without optimizing every single game. Disc based BC no problem

I know the argument.

Just making it clear that both things are not really the same thing and should not be taken as that, there is nothing like Amy tried to push like someone saying something about XBO BC should keep the same stance here when it's not really the same thing, just like people that come to talk about PS Now on a thread like this... as if there was anything to do with the subject.

Anyway it's not semantics, it's making clear those are two different subjects. Not even saying which is better or worse or anything like that, but both should not be bound to the same stance when they are not the same thing.

Its semantics because you understand what was implied.

My physical games may not work on PS4, but the digital content I bought from previous gens may work on PS4.
