Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo fans........I have something I'd like to say to you about the Wii U

I remember Reggie saying that people should vote with their wallets concerning the Wii U that's what I have done (even though I owned a Wii U for a short period) I was not impressed by Nintendo's efforts.

Why does Nintendo persist in making games for a casual audience that has largely moved on to tablets and smart phones. Nintendo need to look at their successes of the past and replicate them in the present. Goldeneye 007 was a massive hit that Metroid prime never came close to.
What makes Nintendo different is its games not strange controllers or purple consoles in short aesthetic appeal is important so I hope Nintendo put some real effort into the physical design of NX so it has mass appeal rather than make another purple box

Nintendo's downfall = Nintendo's fault

Its really as simple as that.

No offense to you intended,

But you either were not here, were not paying attention, or you have some serious revisionist history going on.

Just read the 1st page alone:

That's pretty comprehensive that people would never imagine that the Wii successor, a console that did 100m+ on a few years of support, would bomb THAT hard. It wasn't logic to think of that at all back in the day.

But as you can see on this first page you mentioned, most people believed it would do around 50m, which is already a big drop and a way of saying that the console featured many wrong decisions and concepts. They just couldn't imagine the system would struggle to hit 15 or 20m. :P

To me it was very logical.

I tried very hard to explain why, but all Nintendo fans could do is say that it was fine.....it was gonna do good.

How could it do "good" with so many obvious problems?

To me, any objective person could see all of the problems ( shitty internet, little 3rd party support, Wii being a fad, underpowered hardware, gamers think Nintendo is for kids, Nintendo censoring games, etc) coming a mile away and say this is bad.

Fans don't have to be blind.  Hell, I'm a fairlly hardcore fan of Playstations, but even I chastise them for their internet issues.

Again, fans don't have to be blind.

Once again though you choose to be selective on the points that were going on. Just like everyone automatically assumed that the PS3 would be an instant success coming after the PS2. People knew early on that the PS3 would be expensive and Sony said you guys would have to get two jobs if need be to buy the console. So just because you felt that you brought all of your points to every Nintendo fan (which in of itself is a ridiculous statement) was still not an indication that the WiiU wasn't going to at least sell a fraction of what the Wii sold. Nintendo fans weren't expecting the system to sell anywhere close to Wii numbers, but surely 30-40 million consoles wouldn't have been a far fetched guesstimate of where the WiiU could have sold.

30 - 40 million?   That would have been a moderate success.....somewhat like the Nintendo 64.

The Wii U can hardly outsell the Dreamcast.  It's sad.

But with the LAUNDRY LIST of things that were wrong with the Wii U, it should have been obvious.

You are arguing that the WiiU is a complete sales failure after the fact though and 30-40 million consoles would still have been considered a major sales failure in the face of the Wii. Most consider the 3ds a major flop even though it will probably go on to sell 70 million systems. So I think that most people knew the WiiU wasn't going to be as successful as the Wii was, but you seem to think that Nintendo can't change things at all before the NX comes out...

I guess what I'm saying is we understand your stance and your feelings for the company, so why do you seem so persistent to parade your point of view around even though you think the company has no value in the gaming industry.  I just don't understand gamers like you, "just play what you like" I play the games that I like and focus my energies towards that company who produces those games whether be it negative or positive. Clearly you don't like Nintendo so why does it bother you so what their fans expect of the company? There are fanatical fans on all fronts of the console scene, but they don't speak for the whole fanbase though and it's pretty naive to such. The community here, on YouTube or on N4G doesn't represent every Nintendo fan on the planet.

I sound mean towards Nintendo,  I admit that.

But it's not because I hate them.......It's because I don't want to see them die

And no offense, but your sentiment (Just wait for the NX) is exactly why they will die.

You need to be harsh, critical and deliver truth.....otherwise NX will be the last system you see from NIntendo, assuming that the NX is not a handheld.....and I'm not 100% sure that it won't be a handheld hybrid.

I disagree. I saw many, many fans warning about Wii U's problems before launch. Everyone was just happy to have a new home console from them (and in HD for the first time), but we were warning them for a long time about some issues...

Holy flurking shnidt! Those are some bold, boisterous, and very wrong predictions.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

I don't think nintendo fans have enabled nintendo at all. In fact, from the start, fans have told nintendo they fucked up big on the wiiu, by not buying it. What better way to say, you made a terrible mistake, then by not buying their product? Even the biggest nintendo fanboy, and yes, I am a nintendo fanboy, can't argue the massive failure the wiiu is. All we can hope is, that they can make some big changes with third party relationships, and get rid of the wiiu pad for the nx, and just make the damn thing appealing.

So.................. Nintendo fans are now responsible for what Nintendo's marketing. SMH.

To be fair and honest,  My "letter" and my sentiment is really addressed for YouTubers that carry some weight and even have Nintendo's ear.   Shokio, for example.....Some Nintendo execs actually watch his videos.

But on the other hand, fans here, as a collective, could have also raised their voice of concerns, and maybe could have rallied at least an awareness.  Instead, all I saw was "you're doing great Nintendo......keep up the good work".

That sort of sentiment doesn't do any good if it's a lie.

Now the Wii U is dead.....And I'm sure Nintendo is considering not making traditional Home consoles anymore.

It's kinda like lying to someone who has bad breath, and allowing them to go out on a date with it.   What kind of friend is that?

I doubt that alot, i love my Wii U, and has alot of fantastic games on it. and it was worth every penny in my case when i bought it on launch, but nintendo doesnt really listen to youtubers and take them into account when marketing and stuff.
