Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why FFVII Remake Should Keep Turn-Based Battles

"Why FFVII should stay turn based: I want it to."

I would lose faith in Square if they made it turn based. That was fine when the tech couldn't handle awesome graphics AND high action, but it can now. I wish people would stop letting their nostalgia loose like this. We can only stand to lose by letting nostalgia make games.

The thing is people want it because they loved the original and just dream't of playing it with today's graphics on big screens , now you put this to Nomura and you get I will change it otherwise it's just a remake and what am I directing , my answer to that is what you are directing is just that a remake.

If Nomura wants to put your stamp on things that what your non FF7 games are for ,sure making some changes to the abt system to add more scope for strategy and freshen the experience whilst keeping it's essence is fine, but if he really needs to justify himself then at least give us a choice of battle systems so we could pick between original and new.
What i think we will get is what Nomura sees fit to do without any thought to what the fans want.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Eh, as long as it feel like an actual game and doesn't have a heart-attack inducing random encounter system, I'm on board.

I'm now filled with determination.

If it's Turn-Based it's gonna flop horribly, there's just no point anymore to have Turn-base on RPGs unless it's Tactical like Final Fantasy Tactics or XCOM.

Turn-based battle systems are incredible boring, repetitive and require no skill or intelligence to play. In theory you could create a turn-based RPG that's actually challenging, but they never do, they only challenge is mindless doing the same thing a thousand times over and over.

Now the real problem is that Square's ARPG (Kingdom Hearts) is also pretty awful, and in a world where Demon's Souls and Dragon's Dogma exist I'm not putting a 100 hours in a game with crappy battle mechanics, maybe I could put out with something as bad as The Witcher 3 if the rest of the game is great, but any worse than that and I'm out.

its Final Fantasy 7 its gonna do fine either way and just cause you find turn base boring that doesn't mean other people do look at the succcess of Pokemon.

I love the original, and I want the remake to be even better. a hybrid turn-base system is cool with me.

Nah, they should change the combat system ...

Quite frankly if people want to play more turn based RPGs then there's tons of that from the 6/7th generation and handhelds with tolerable graphics ...

I want to see Nomura's true vision not hampered by the limitations of old consoles ...

and if people want to play an action RPG on the 8th genertation of consoles there's Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 and 3, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Kingdom Hearts 2.9 and 3, Xenoblade Choncles X, and of course Final Fantasy 15 and those were only just from the top of my head we don't have much turn base RPG's this gen and so far all we're getting that i know of is Persona 5, Dragon Quest 11, and SMT x Fire Emblem.

Y'know, now that Kojima's on the outs, Konami should totally remake the original Metal Gear games. But now "the tech" exists, they should make it an FPS. Preferably with competitive multiplayer. Because that's what the kids want.

Capcom should remake the old Mega Man games as one big title all with current graphics. But make it a 3D fighting game, because, at the end of the day, that's what Mega Man games are, right? Platforming just isn't AAA any more, honestly.

Nintendo could make tons of money remaking the original Zelda. But this time around make it a traditional turn-based RPG, like Dragon Quest...people love DQ and Zelda, can you imagine how excited they'd be for this hybrid?

Sony should remake Legend of Dragoon, but let's just cut to the chase - let From Software make it. Hey, Sony + FromSoft is always gold, right?

to the people who are saying it should be action RPG cause it would be a experience all i am gonna say is that if you want that just play Final Fantasy 15 instead and let us the remake that every Final Fantasy 7 fan wants one where the characters look no longer like Lego's, have the game completely voiced acted, change Zack's lame as hell death to his bad ass Crisis Core death scene, and have a fully 3D camera with no tank controls outside of combat.

in Final Fantasy 15 you gonna get a even bigger new experience with brand new characters, a new world, a different open world compare to past games, all told with a entirely new and different story. by default you aren't gonna get that full on exprience cause we all know Sephiroth kills Aerith we are not gonna get an entirely new experience since its a remake there will be new stuff add to it but a lot of the core aspects of Final Fantasy 15 will be improved on and expanded upon.

Nah, should be like the tales series.

Nostalgia is the only reason this remake is happening.
