Forums - Sales Discussion - Fallout 4 Digital Sales Estimated at 1.8m in First Three Days

Still less than Halo 5 digital sales, according to some people.

Actually, if SuperData can estimate Xb one and PS4 digital sales for FO4, why can't it estimate Halo 5 digital sales?

Taking away pc leaves 600k across xbox one and PS4. Not even close to some of the percentages I see thrown around on this site when a game doesn't sell as well as they expect/think it should. Digital on consoles is still horribly overstated

So, you're saying that the % is the same for all game types?

Not at all. Just that there are fewer people willing to fill up their tiny console hard drive with massive games than is sometimes stated. Especially when many people don't have amazing internet.

I also think that physical games are so easily available that, why not get them? Odds are that people will pass by a gaming shop at least once during a week. Still though, it depends on the game. Super Data says that GTAV was at 7% while Destiny was at 17% on consoles.

The games fill up the HDD no matter what. Whether you buy Fallout 4 physical or digital it's going on the HDD.

Anyways, that's some massive digital sales, including 600k for consoles. I think the mistake people make when talking about digital sales is assuming all things are equal. If Game A does such and such digital, that doesn't mean Game B should then do a similar amount. Also, if Publisher A says Q% of their sales are digital, that doesn't mean all games for Publisher A sell Q% digital. One title could be eating up 60% of all those digital sales and 13 other titles could be sharing the remaining 40%.

It's too bad we're not in a position to see how well games sell digitally. But not surprising when they're so secretive about physical sales. Until it's report time, anyway.

There is no reason to be commenting on it because it's ridiculous....

Oh here, it would take 30 new Xenoblade games to match the sale of GTA V..... Oh wow that's sad.

Of course there is. It's an interesting statistic. It's not comparing the entirety of Fallout 4's sales to Bloodborne's. It's comparing a fraction of Fallout 4's sales with the entirety of Bloodborne's. And let's not pretend that Fallout 4 will sell GTA V numbers or anywhere close. The comparison is not even remotely as absurd as you are making it out to be, and Bloodborne is not nearly as niche as you're making it out to be.

Not sure if deliberately obtuse or just very incompetent at appropriate analogies. Bloodbourne was a brand new IP. Comparing it to Fallout is, quite frankly, absurd.

Does that 1.2 million include discount sites like cdkeys or are the sales even higher?
I have no idea how popular those discount sites are

Around 1.2 million units were sold on PC, primarily through Valve's Steam platform
"...he says is proof that PC gamers don't "exclusively purchase games at a huge discount, and instead prove themselves willing to shell out full price for select titles."

What outlets can they track on PC? What's considered full price.

12 million physical copies shipped, vs 1.8 million digital sales.  The bulk of those 12 million are for consoles with the lower amount of digital sales at 640k. 10% digital console sales, does that sound plausible? Maybe 15%.
