Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony Treat Rise Of The Tombraider As A Relaunch?

Sony would just probably mention it at the pressers but not in a mode that they would give it big fanfare or anything.

Maybe part of their game montage for 2016 or something.

This has to be one of the strangest decisions in recent memory. The game is a total bomb.

Tomb raider just isn't their style of game and I'm shocked they didn't get Star Wars marketing or continue with cod. The audience for TR just isn't very big on Xbox.

Why would they bother giving ROTR special treatment when everybody knows its a year old game. Maybe just show it on the montage next e3, mention it and let SE worry about relaunching it in PS4. With their list of exclusive coming out next year and other better 3rd party games, their money will be better spend on marketing and promoting those games than ROTR.

It will probably be a Game of the year edition, with everything that has been released the past year, including patches and DLC. Perhaps even updated textures or anything gameplay- or graphics related which the development team has time to work on.

But I don't think Sony will do anything extraordinay marketing wise. It'll be a year old when it comes out on PS4. It will just be another AAA-game on the platform for the holiday sales.
Also Sony will definitely have some even bigger AAA games coming out at the same time, which will marketing budget. But what games actually, do we now ?

Don't think so. They don't care for this.

Sure, why would Sony care for a franchise which is highly associated with the Playstation brand.

Ok, what do you expect Sony to do? Do you really expect them to advertise the game on TV/Internet with the PlayStation logo? Lol, if you do, that's crazy because they would never spend money on a game like Tomb Raider especially when it's coming out Q4 2016 when Sony will be advertising a bunch of other games that would sell a shit ton more consoles than Tomb Raider.

There is a difference between not caring for a franchise or doing advertisement. We will see what they will do but saying Sony doesn't care for TR is silly.

I'm not saying they will completely ignore Tomb Raider, they will treat it as they do with every other big 3rd party title for which they won't have exclusive marketing rights, they'll upload YouTube videos and blog post and tweet about it but that's it.

I think sony will be generous and give it a promo push

This incident aside they have a good working relationship with SE and there will be at least 1m PS4 owners waiting to pick it up. Sony have promoted and bundled less compelling purchases (like remasters).

I don't know, but im sure it will selling very well :).

PEACE, PEACE! PEACE!

That wasn't a major western release. Final Fantasy VII is more significant in the west. Frankly, it wasn't a huge seller on PS4 either.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony money hatted FFVII so it wouldn't come to Xbox. But as of right now it seems the plan is to bring it to Xbox. By the time that game is ready the X1 userbase could be nearing 40 million.

Ok then, look at MGSV, even that didn't really sell well on XBO compared to PS4/PC. The majority of Xbox One gamers just don't care about Japanese games. It was different last gen because the 360 was in lead and Microsoft funded/bought Japanese games, this time they don't have either.

And I would say that MGS V is more enticing to Xbox One owners than Final Fantasy games.

Steam Spy is tracking good sales for MGSV. But there were a lot of bundle copies and discounts going around for that game.

Does that mean the X1 version wasn't worth the effort? No. There is a potential million seller there. We don't know digital numbers either.

360 didn't really have a significant audience for Japanese games either. Many of them sold less than 500K while a lucky few passed a million.

Final Fantasy XIII managed to sell 2 million+ on 360. But that game hit the market the 360 userbase was around 50 million. Over 5 years into the life of the 360.
