Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony Treat Rise Of The Tombraider As A Relaunch?

So many opinions! I've got to say I find the whole idea of Sony 'punishing' SE a little daft. Sony have many deals with SE at the moment with games like Nier, Star Ocean and Dragon's Quest and Sony helping SE to get Tombraider up in sales would be met very positively and cement a relationship that could rival that on the PS2. If Sony go that extra mile then it's even more certain that SE will offer the PS4 more exclusives in the future.

This is business not a charity. Squares will make more off of their PS4 deals that will cover their fumble.

I think in the long run it has cost MS more in terms of relationship between them and SE. CD has certainly learnt their lesson in this to.

No matter how much money MS put up for the deal, this must be devastating for the devs. This is their blood, sweat and tears and they thought they would be getting something good from this to help their baby, instead they got the shaft.

only if it comes with some extra dlc or multiplayer

Sony wont bat on eye. they will be too busy with their exclusives, Destiny 2, CoD, and Battlefield 5 to even care about tomb raider.

I would not be surprised, if they worked with SE to add new content. If Sony has leeway (and the agreement with MS will certainly factor in), I'd expect a targeted campaign.

That rarely happens after a exclsuive deal is made.

Nope not at all, with being the 3rd platform release, Sony wont give a crap it will trickle out and SE will very much regret the X1 Deal.

I just hope its not the end for tomb raider, theyve turned into solid games recently.

Well obviously, SE need the sales much more then SONY, so the deal will favor SONY rather then SE for next year, i believe there will be a dlc for rise of tomb Rider next year, and i am sure it will have an exclusive deal with SONY, but nevertheless, if they want to re lunch Rise of Tomb Rider is not that matter for SONY.

I can feel a LE Tomb Raider themed console coming on, that is not limited to only a few retailers in the USA. If game sales don't get anywhere close to expectations I think SE may well be very keen for the PS4 release to have the appearance of a definitive edition re-launch.

But the game should do well on PC, because PC gamers are used to having delayed ports so they will buy the game in the same numbers as if it was launched on the same day as Xb one. This might get RoTR sales up to a level where SE feels they don;t need a relaunch marketing campaign for PS4. I guess we have about 10 months until we find out. By September we should know what SE/Sony have planned for the RoTR release, if anything.

Square-Enix done fucked up big. Not only bagging on the platform with the smaller install base that doesn't have a long TR history.

They launched on the day of fallout 4. They are known for being a company that need huge sales to break even, what were they thinking?

Does it matter? Sony has FF7 Remake. That makes Tomb Raider irrelevant in comparison. Actually, it's not even a comparison.

Xbox will have that too. And that remake is probably years away.
