Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony Treat Rise Of The Tombraider As A Relaunch?

With the not too sterling sales of Rise Of The Tombraider, I'd say that SE will be none too pleased at the moment. We know it's supposed to be coming in a years time to the PS4 but I have a feeling it will come just a little earlier because SE will not want the same situation again. If it can launch in August/October on the PS4 with improved graphics, a steadier framerate, less imput lag and all the DLC (if any is planned) then I can see Sony getting behind it with a big marketing deal. If SE bundle Tombraider in I'm sure the bundle would sell very well at $350.

1080p version with extras and dlc on disc is coming for PS4 next year.
but i have no interest. Uncharted 4 is coming in march 2016 <3

Why would Sony want to do a marketing deal for a year old game? Why would this game be any special when Sony will have other games to concentrate on?
I see Sony treating this game like hundreds of other PS4 games - acknowledge it's there, give it an article on its blog, and let Square Enix worry about selling it.

Also, we don't know the exact agreement on delay with MS, I can see this game launching in January 2017 rather than being earlier than 12 month delay.

If I were Sony I would let it hang out to dry to be honest. It's not their problem to recoup lost sales for Square-Enix. Do a blog post and let people know it's there. Focus on Horizon and whatever else they need to market.

This game is getting a PC release that is much earlier than the PS4 so people will be getting it there too. And seeing as the series doesn't really have a big audience in the first place Sony shouldn't bother with it since they have a big year ahead of them.

The last game sold over 8.5 million units. That's not a small audience.

Why would SE be "none too pleased"? Are they supposed to be surprised the game sold less than others in the series, launching on less platforms and in the same span as Halo, CoD, and Fallout? I mean, surely people understand MS paid for this exclusive time period? I'm sure they expect the game to have legs.

And I'm not sure why Sony would care to market Tomb Raider at all, let alone as a "relaunch" when everyone will know it's been out a year. SE will market is as "finally available on PS4" or something, and basically release it alongside a "definitive edition" on PC/Xbone I am guessing.

Wouldnt surprise me if Sony actually gave better support to the title....

I think Square-Enix made a big mistake not launching it with the PS4. Yes, sure MS paid for timed exclusivity but in the end it's going to hurt them more... With al the software coming to PS4 next year why would Sony bother with a almost year old game.

Yes, but this one has gone through a lot of bad press because of the deal with Microsoft and despite all the advertizing and Microsoft putting up against UC4 it did very bad launch numbers. So, a year later people will forget most likely about it and would go with the big games of holidays 2016.
