Forums - Microsoft Discussion - XB1 Star Wars 720p/Solid 60fps (Gamrsyde)

It will only get worse with time... as games get more advanced graphically I expect even the PS4 to start doing 900p on 30fps games and the XB1 to do 720p with these 30fps.

At least in this case the game is almost a solid 60fps.

That's not how optimizing works...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

720p/900p is an worthwhile tradeoff for a solid 60fps in my opinion.

With graphics like this, 1080/60fps on consoles isn't really on the table anyway.

I wish more devs prioritised framerate.

That's exactly how it worked on past generations. Games got prettier along them, but with a few exceptions, they ran worse. Remember that on the final years of the PS3/360 duo we were playing games at 720p, some even sub-HD, with unlocked 30fps dropping constantly to 20... (of course, talking about AAA or AA games).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I know that Dice hasn't since BF4 is the same situation. But when a game comes out 1080p with massive framerate drops, it's obvious that 1080p was the focus instead of performance. It needs to stop being the case.

Do you mean like Fallout 4?  Well, I think that the problem with that game is that its using a last gen engine period that hasn't been updated in quite some time.  Still, looking at Fallout's sales, you have to wonder if they felt the need to spend the money?

Not really Fallout 4 because those kinds of things are expected from Bethesda with the scope and density of their games.

I mean in games like Until Dawn where nothing will actually be happening action wise but somehow the framerate goes to like 20. I don't know if its bad optimization or just focusing on the wrong things.

I fell like that is a bad example because it doesn't depend on twitch gameplay.  Therefore, The focus is on other areas.  Like setting atmosphere.  The game exceeded quite nicely in this area.  Things are different now.

While it doesn't depend on twitch gameplay the drops are pretty jarring when just watching a playthrough.

There aren't many twitch gameplay games these days like how Unreal Tournament was. Closest things are COD and Halo but those framerates are pretty good.

Really? So you say that optimizing means you limit yourself early in development to fit into the respective specs to hit some bullet points?

As I say about every game these days... "Yes, but is it GOOD?". I am old enough to have had fights on the playground over which console had more bits than the other one. This is just as silly, trust me.

As long as the game isn't dipping so low in frame rate that it's unplayable or affects gameplay, it doesn't matter. What matters is if the game is fun/good.

I've been there. Some of my most memorable games didn't look all pretty and dipped in framerates in some instances. Long as the game is playable and not broken im good.

720p.......
