Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Predict 3DS and Wii U sales by end of 2015 and LT

Do you mean Nintendo shipped numbers, Vgchartz sold through or actual sell through?

I ask because the Wii U is currently over tracked on here so I'm wondering what you want.

My end of the year figures are in my sig, my 3DS is probably close to home, a little too high (needs 470k average weekly from Nov 1st to make it) and my Wii U is also probably quite close, I suspect it may pass by 200-250k or so by year's end (unless suspicions of overtracking prove to be true, in which case my figure will rather precise). All in all, not bad for predictions made in January.

As for lifetime; been saying somewhere between 18-25 million for Wii U for a couple of years now, the lower end of that spectrum is most likely now, I think somewhere around 18-20 at this point, with the average being 19. 3DS is a bit harder, it has tumbled down like I said it would despite N3DS launch in the West and the decline is actually quicker than I anticipated, so 75 million could be the cap, especially if there's a successor next year (which is looking exceedingly likely).

The more interesting bit here is that I screwed up my Vita figures completely and will be off by a rather large amount on both Xbox One and PS4 for year end numbers, despite giving predictions that were considered conservative at the time.

Weren't there reports that Foxconn had manufactured like 14 million Wii U's back in 2012, as the first and only batch Nintendo ordered? Is it likely that they will ever order more manufactured? I remember reading something like that a while back. And I was assuming Nintendo didn't cut the price because they wanted profits off of that shipment.

Anyway Wii U LT, I say 14 million and 12, 2 by the end of the year.

An unrelated edit: I did some research on Foxconn's Wikipedia page (they also produce electronics for Apple, Sony and Microsoft):

"

Foxconn has been involved in several controversies relating to how it manages employees in China. There has been a history of suicides at its factories blamed on working conditions. In January 2012, about 150 Foxconn employees threatened to commit mass-suicide in protest at their working conditions.[10]"

That's pretty f*cked up.

By the end of the year:
3DS - 58.5 m
WIIU - 12.5 m

LT
3DS - 70 m
WIIU - 16.5 m

Its not overtracked. Its actually spot on.Nintendo said in the financial meeting in october(forgot the official name) that it had sold 10.73 Million Wii U until that point. So yeah, vgchartz is spot on

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Remember, all three companies usually report figures we refer to as shipped though, they were probably talking about shipped numbers, which means sold to retailer, which is still a sale for Nintendo but not a product that has found its end user.
Sony and Microsoft operate with shipped numbers as well, it's the industry standard in almost every press event and info piece.

Well, I cant seem to find now an article about the quarter report, but I was under the impression, and still am, that those are sold to costumer numbers, not shipped.Well, even if they are shipped, Wii U numbers shouldnt be that much low, probably gravitating around 10.4 million.Vgchartz is still accurate either way

Wii U was on 10.7m on 31. September, so you think Wii U will sell only 800k in holiday quarter!?

I will refer to Nintendo official numbers not to VGC numbers.

3DS: 60m YE / 73m LT
Wii U: 12.5m YE / 16.5m LT
