Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Zelda U - Clearly female link in image.

I think the point of Link is that he is the *ahem* "link" between the player and the game world. This idea is enforced by having link never talk, because there would be a disconnect from the player and the game (rather than in some games where you play as a character and take on their traits, IMO in zelda you are the main character and act like you would in the situation) I think, for a while, the player base was primarily male, so having a male "link" to the game made sense. Now I think that the player base has grown more diverse over the years (perhaps with Legend of Zelda more than most) that a female link would perhaps make more sense. As such I have no qualms with a female link to allow for a more accurate incarnation in the game for half of the player base. It would reinforce the rhetorical value of the name "link".

Yes, you're right but even if I have the same gender as the character, how can I be the character if I'm fat and the character is slim or if I have black hair and the character blond or if I'm 6 years old and the character is 16? I think kids can identify themesleves more with a character if the character acts like they would act. If the character acts "correctly", the kids have no issues to intentify themsleves with him or her even if they have a different gender. Kids generally like to be good and doing good things (as a character), morally upright. In the Zelda games, you can't really do evil things (well, you can terrorise the chicken but, hey;)

Whether they continue to have Link male, or make him female, I honestly don't care.
I just want the first true HD Zelda game to the best possible game it can be. What gender the main protagonist is, does not matter to me in the slightest in that regard.
Give it the best aspects of the open world formula that you're incorporating while still remembering and perfecting what makes the Legend of Zelda, the Legend of Zelda.

I could have sworn I read that Nintendo specifically said the link in this game was male.

Anyway, I'd rather have a game starring an action adventurer Zelda than just female a Link. Why change the gender of one character when they have two characters that could just change roles?

If Link is female, I clearly will sit this entry out.

Its already been confirmed that Link is male, and playable.
But who cares?

DID YOU SEE THAT BEAUTIFUL SWORD?! Please let me go through the game with that massive beast, cleaving enemies in half. I want it so much...!

I literally do not care what gender Link is. I just want the game.

*Sigh* But let's just forget that Aonuma already said it's a male Link like always.

Link is male in the game. I know, it's pretty hard to believe Link could possibly be male -but he is.

As spoken by SpokenTruth!

*sigh* this has been done to death, Link is male and he's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
