Want me to be a mod? I'll do it. I'll mod the fuck out of some shit.

Even if you'd want you can't mod this.

He's too fast. Can't lay a hand on him!

I get criticized for providing database info. I know this site has no use for DB Admins, but I try to at least be useful and provide a community service for free when I should be doing real work at work. 😔

I also get blamed for the site sucking because people think I'm a site admin.

Then I get called a troll all the time, but I like that actually. 😆

For the record, I criticize you for your tiny boobs....but actually, I kinda like them, too.

As far as my opinion on OP, you are awesome 😊

You provide valuable insight to the sight about the insightful things you know. You are loved by at least me, on here. If anything really upsets you and you can't shake it, go punch your hubby on the arm just for the hell of it! 😆 That's what he's for.

So as someone who was part of making the "fanboy" rule I suppose I'll stick up for that decision. Basically at that point in time people were using calling someone a fanboy as a means of attacking the messenger instead of the message. Any argument someone didn't agree with they could call the person a fanboy because, although it was already established that you couldn't insult other users, fanboy was seen as such a weak insult that they wouldn't get in trouble for. Personally I think that any kind of attacking the person instead of what the person is saying is detrimental to discussion in a forum so I'm generally happy with that rule.

The problem with the rule is that it works in theory, but in application it just results in users basically saying the same thing in a different way, and many users have become extremely adept at skirting the rules in this way, as for how that can be resolved, the more we double down on words people can't say to one another, the more new ways people will find to continue and work around the rules and the more blurred the lines between a normal post with any tint of sarcasm or humor gets taken the wrong way.

In essence we make the job harder for ourselves.

I firmly believe what is needed is a more updated rule set, and a more robus moderation system, as it stands right now if a user is moderated a few times, the time they serve scales upwards, but if then suddenly change their ways for a while, when they next get banned it returns back to a short ban or just a slap on the wrist, even if only a few weeks have passed.

Essentially this makes moderations mean nothing beyond the time served, the ban lengths should be, warning, 1 day, 3 day, 5 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, permanent. and scale based on each infraction, so if you break the rules 4 times for example, your next infraction is 2 weeks no matter how long since your last ban, and anyone clocking in 8 is gone for good.

If a "reset" on this for people who change their ways is truly needed then I would give the reset a fixed period, 6 months for people with 4 or below infractions to be reset to 0, one year for 5-7 infractions.

The system we have in place right now, does not work at disuading users from continuing to break the rules, we all know this clearly, something needs to give.

i posted this from my "life raft" just this morning,.. make of it what you will:

the problem with vgchartz moderations is they are focused more on trying to create a culture then they are on trying to have consistent moderation rules.  their goal above and beyond anything else is to cultivate a culture of constructive, intelligent conversation.  the problem in their execution of that ideal is they view any negative statement as a fanboy statement even if well supported with actual facts.  ..and moderation that moderates any thread/user that comes to a negative conclusion that might hurt someone's feelings completely kills any constructive, intelligent conversation.

the moderation is so uneven it's always hard to tell what will/won't get moderated if you are posting something even slightly negative in nature.  then individual users are moderated inconsistently too,.. i personaly can post some really shitty things and get away with it because i have a reputation of sarcasm but if some lesser known individual posted some of the same crap i posted they'd be banned immediately.   which then creates conflict because everyone now views any moderation as biased and unfair which then feeds back into people not wanting to post.

but in short:  you cannot force people to be "positive, people respecting one another, people sharing their shared love for games BECAUSE of that love for games" and attempts to try and force that are counter-productive.  forums are a place for various view points to be expressed, shared, and yes arguged.  conflict is inevitable and frankly part of what entices people to forums.  don't fight that,.. learn the difference between good and bad conflict.  then moderate with a consistent set of rules that doesn't confuse the fuck out of the users.  what is/isn't acceptable is waaay too dependant on who said it and who read it.

in the mean time,.. i don't much care to post here anymore.  the moderation is inconsistent and the certain users have learned how to exploit the modderation team either to shit post or to bait post.  ..and that isn't fun to read or participate in.

anyways,.. i'm heading back to the site i enjoy posting on now..

thats why you shouldn't be a mod here.. we are awefull and in the end you'll be brushed away into the mod graveyard.. i don't think people know how many mods we have gone through...

no mod gets out of here alive...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

In the end, it's a forums about people talking about video games.

People are gonna argue, and act uncivil, but unfortunately, there is only so much that can be done about it.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

So you're basically asking for water not to be wet.

I think the mods are doing a good job but their tools are limited or in need of being updated. Maybe the punishments need to be more creative. Hell, just being able to ban a user from being able to post or create certain types of threads (microsoft, sony, nintendo, political or religious) would be better than resorting to a permaban. Some users are completely decent people until they are in certain type of threads then they turn into asshats. If a person can't behave their self in a type of thread, prevent them from posting or creating any threads there for a set amount of time.
