Forums - PC Discussion - I need help with Dolphin(noob here)

Tagged games:

People were mentioning an HD gamecube/wii emulator named Dolphin. Weirdly, it's the first time I ever heard of it, so I decided to download it.

Looks and seems awesome. Downloading any games with HD resolution makes for a good emulator.  only problem is...I don't understand how to download a game in dolphin :

I'm too used to GBA emulators, where you simply download one file and that's all.

Could anyone possibly help me with downloading games with Dolphin? I'm trying to add Xenoblade and Twilight Princess.

Isn't it basically the same as using a GBA emulator? I use VBA and all you need to do is drag the .gba rom into the emulator to run it

Likewise, download the .iso game file

then open Dolphin

Click open on top left, find the .iso file and open to run

(I had more trouble with controller connections :p)

Unfortunately that would be piracy and nobody can help you here with that. Btw make sure you have a decent PC with a 3.5 GHZ + CPU or 4.0 GHZ + for AMD. Otherwise games like Xenoblade and the Legend of Zelda Wii games won't play full speed. And for HD resolutions you'll need a dedicated GPU or a new Broadwell/Skylake igpu.

You want a super fast cpu (dual only needed) (pref. haswell or better) that you can OC to like 4.4ghz or better.
That should ensure you can play any Wii game emulated running 1080p and never drop frames.

A G3258 is pretty cheap, get one if you need, and oc it to 4.0+ ghz atleast.
Anything in dolphin should be playable at good fps rates.

Dolphin uses .iso files, so just look up those.

I can't provide any links due to legal reasons, so you'll have to find them with Google.

Shouldnt you be telling him to make backups of his own games instead? :P

Well if he wants to use Dolphin for pirating, that's his decision.

If I could link ISOs, I would.

I'm personally not a supporter of using emulators to pirate, but I'm not against it, and I still usr emulators occasionally.

Never knew it was a legal thing to share links. ; My apologies

It's not piracy if you own the game you are emulating. Some people may want to try hd versions of the old games they own

Taken from Nintendo's website:

"Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet."

Not that many people care - I just want to make sure that false information isn't spread.
