So many people asked for this... I'm happy for them. It's interesting that the 2016 3DS line up is looking pretty good with Bravely Second, Fire Emblem Fates, FF Explorers, Mario & Luigi and now DQ VII and VIII (also many indies and smaller games)... good support for a 5 years old portable.

Unless you aren't a fan of JRPGs, but I am, so ahahahah

Yeah, just realized they're all JRPGs. haha But it's still pretty good for an end life support.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

The 3DS's lineup in 2016 is an RPG fan's wet dream. DQVII, DQVII, Bravely Second, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Fire Emblem Fates, SMTIV Final, Project X Zone 2, Final Fantasy Explorers, maybe Monster Hunter X and potentially Pokemon Z.

What a time to be alive.

Nice. Lots of JRPGs. I've never played a DQ game, so I'll pick one of those eventually. Which one is better for newcomers, VII or VIII?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

for supposedly being the final year of the system's life it looks like it could be its best year

(if your a JRPG fan that is)

It's hard to say at this point. VII is probably the beefier of the two, and before the tweaks for the 3DS version, it would have been a pretty decisive victory for VIII. That said, VIII is a great game, but I don't know how much the changes for the 3DS version (graphically among others) will affect the overall experience.

VIII is easily one of my favorite PS2 games, at the least. VII I haven't really had the chance to play through yet, but I'll wait for the 3DS version since they removed the need to use menus to do every action like in the older titles.

For newcomers, I would go 8. It's easy to get into and overally, a modern classic. VII is a long...long...game. Much longer than 8 and many people didn't have the patience to complete it on the PS1. It's still a very great game. So definitely go with 8.

Ironically enough I was gonna play/start on Dragon quest VIII few days ago - I even started the game and was exploring the first town.

But after hearing this announcement - gonna wait for the 3DS version. Hopefully its not censored :P

Hmm...choose your pick but I would still recommend playing the PS2 version. It's simply the better game in comparison to the 3DS and Smarphone ports. The 3DS does have improvements like a more fleshed out back story and no more random encounters, extra characters and dungeons but technically it isn't as good as the PS2 version.

The direct was amazing, and this piece of news is great! I was waiting for them to announce 7, would have never imagined they Would announce both! I am so happy, this with TP, Star Fox, Bravely Second, Xenoblade, M&L and many more will keep me very busy next Year. Nintendo, you are amazing!
