Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shooter King: Destiny (now with content), Halo the un-killable or COD the juggernogg?

So I believe we are at a virtual crossroads so to speak, where a case could be made for any of these games being the "biggest" shooter at the moment. There are so many measures (media coverage, streamers and viewers, scores and metas, competitive scenes etc) you could use that I think it would make for an interesting discussion.

So in short: which do you think is the biggest shooter at the moment and do you believe it will change in the coming years?

CoD

Black Ops 3 has reinforced Call of Duty's leadership as the shooter king. Over time, I expect Destiny to overtake it, once the developers figure out how to better manage it. I don't see halo becoming king anytime soon for various reasons (no local multiplayer, exclusive to the #2 console currently)

Right now is cod but in a few months it will be halo because of the halo world championships.

In absolute terms, yes I agree that COD is still on top but I was surprised because I expected it to be ahead of Halo 5 by more than it was. I think halo was 400 million with hardware and cod was 550 million (unsure if it was with hw) but it just hit home how big halo is despite being exclusive.

I play destiny a lot, so I really feel Destiny 2 will be massive. It seems you do too......

Didn't know about this!

When does it start? USA based I assume.....

COD is still the undisputed king, but one could definitely make a case for Destiny now as well. The great thing though is that they are two very different types of shooter offering distinct experiences. I really love that fact.

H5 revenue was with hardware while BO3 revenue was software only.

Call of duty is the big dick on campus whether anyone likes that or not. Personally I would think that battlefront has a better chance at dethroning it than Destiny, but I really don't see any of CoDs contemporaries replacing it in the foreseeable future - no, there'd need to be a new IP for that.

CSGO... why is CSGO not an option??

I believe cod was software only, not hardware. Impressive for halo, but not quite the achievement as COD.

I believe destiny also made like half a billion in its first day as well which is why I am confident Destiny 2 will be just as big or bigger. Also, something really interesting that destiny does is expansions vs. sequels. With each huge expansion (for instance the taken king), Destiny gets promoted just as much as cod does without people complaining "it's the same every year." The expansions keep destiny fresh and maintain hype for the sequel to really hit hard
