Forums - Gaming Discussion - 1080p standard needs to stop.

1080p or 60 frames?

Without 1080p games arent playable 90 23.62%

Without 60 frames games arent playable 154 40.42%

Both (PC Master Race) 137 35.96%

Total:381

Framerate depends on the game to me. Some games I can honestly not tell the difference at all between 30 fps and 60 fps, and other games it feels dramatic. Resolution fits the same. I want big open world games to have better resolution. I want the industry to standardize both 1080p and 60 fps honestly.

OP is right; I'm done with 1080p and enjoying 1440p instead!

Super Smash Bros 4 Wii U achieved 1080p with a locked 60FPS.... just so ya'll know. Oh, and it does that with 8 person smash btw.

You know what's funny?

You're acting like you have to buy some Microsoft branded HDD for the x1. Sorry, but you can plug in any brand you want, I'm not even sure there is an xbox branded one, and if there is, who cares, you get whatever you want.

Even a pure ssd one.

Not an internal one.  Go ahead and use any external drive you want, but that doesn't cause the same performance gains you seem to think it does.

API calls, OS calls, background processes, etc are all loaded off the OS install. The OS install is NOT on your external hard drive. If you want to see true performance gains outside of load times -- it needs to be an internal drive. Sorry.

CORRECTION: I guess i did buy a 5600rpm 18 months ago. 7200rpm SSHD 2.5" drives are quite a bit more expensive.

You are right about an internal hard drive replacement would be best. I think ms was stupid for not making that a design feature.

But, the link Azzanation provided about the performance gains were about fallout 4, the game. Not os improvements or anything, just game performance improvements.

An external hard drive gave the game a performance improvement. That's the point.

A non xbox branded hard drive will improve game performance.

Anyone can get whatever external hard drive they want, without your supposed Microsoft price gouging. Is it the ideal method? Maybe not. But it's a performance upgrade nonetheless.

It's about more than fps and resolution though, Smash isn't exactly heavy on post processing effects and other visual touch-up and has fairly simple textures. I can make a Minecraft looking game run at 1080p and 60fps, that's not really an issue, but comparing Smash Brothers to Fallout 4 is hardly logical.

Truly you have ascended a level I cannot yet reach.

"is it possible to learn this power?"

I really do need to order a new and different GSYNC monitor though seeing as how SCAN failed to deliver mine due to their out of stock/pre-order status. That and I'll need a new ram kit by cyber monday.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

What many people here are forgetting is that it takes years before developers learn to fully optimize games for a certain console. You won't see best looking games for the consoles released on either PS4 or X1 in several years. Heck, best looking games for PS2 were released AFTER PS3 was already released. So it took over 6 years to get maximum out of PS2. The same happened with PS3, X360 etc. Games released in 2 first years looked like crap compared to last releases on same consoles.

So it is still too early to say current consoles can't do 1080p/30fps or even 60fps.

And thats why we have the next gen to look forward too. We'll see what improvements these company's can make.

Pocky Lover Boy!

someone made a collage of all of the promises made before the PS4 came out, that it would compete graphically with current gaming PCs, for me it was a real eye-opener. People's expectations are too high now. Just think of the current generation as a half a step better than the last. Anyway if graphics are really that important you should just build a rig

Video games's market says no - average consumer prefers graphics over fps, if we talk about +-30 FPS.

Devs should ignore what a the few want and just focus on making good games. I'm sure I could say the vast majority of gamers don't give a damn about 1080p.

Pixel or FPS count do not make any game " good ".

The few want 1080p ?
