Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bethesda are crap, they need a new engine and team.

I agree, Bethesda got a lot of praise for what it did right and almost nothing for what it did wrong.

Both performance, gameplay and graphics are quite weak for a company that puts so many years in each game. Good plot and setting, plus huge worlds, have been saving them so far. But they definitively need to step up on everything else.

Yeah, they should optimize their games before releasing them. There's no excuse, you can't say that they get a free pass just because the gameplay is good... if every company thought like this we would have a messed Zelda, a messed Uncharted, a messed GTA, etc.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Wow, poor other devs. Apparently Bethesda is "crap" and needs new people yet their games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Rage, Wolfenstein, etc defecate all over 99% of other devs games from great heights. I guess that says a lot about those other devs :(

I love how out of all the games this year, this one game has broke the straw on the camels back for this site. I mean PC suffered AK, MKX, Unity the year before, possibly Syndicate and possibly NFS in 2016 and yet this one game running bad temperorily on a system or two has set some people on here into a complete frenzy. I mean bethesda are using an old engine for sure but I've sen far worse than what bethesda does and yet the ones going ham on bethesda pay no attention to the devs who have given PC plenty of bad ports in the past.

Framerate drops are inexcusable, especially when it goes down to 0 fps.

Won't be playing this game until after Xenoblade X which will be next year. Hopefully they will have fixed it then.

It's the Bethesda RPG Curse.  They're success comes at the cost of never ending rage.  Every time - every effing time - a new BGS game release the crap storm on forums - especially their own forums - is insane.  Every Elder Scrolls game has been lambasted by rabid fans of the prior entry - many of whole come over to its side in time to lambasted the next one.  Morrowind man, Morrowind was GARBAGE, a casualized mess dumbed down to appeal to casual main streamers and it was a disgrace to even call it an Elder Scrolls game.  It ruined EVERYTHING the great Daggerfall accomplished.  Then, when Oblivion released, it was GARBAGE, a casualized mess dumbed down to appeal to casual main streamers and it was a disgrace to even call it an Elder Scrolls game.  It ruined EVERYTHING the great Morrowind accomplished.  And then when Skyrim released, it was GARBAGE, a casualized mess dumbed down to appeal to casual main streamers and it was a disgrace to even call it an Elder Scrolls game.  It ruined EVERYTHING the great Oblivion and Morrowind accomplished!  Eventually, you learn - as I did - that it's all white noise, a bunch of sound and furry signifying nothing.  Just ignore it is my advice.  It's toxic.

More on topic, I agree with the engine bit but not the team bit.  They have a lot of skilled devs but the old engine holds them back.  My only concern is a new engine could come at the cost of modding tools.

They are basically damned if they do, damned if they don't. I know I'm a bit disappointed with this new iteration (still going to buy it and mod the ever loving fuck out of it after I'm done with Legacy of the Void) but now I just feel bad for them with the years of ongoign waves of rage, I thought that only happened during the Fallout 3/Skyrim releases, not after Daggerfall and beyond though.

Also I agree with the engine part, they've been sporting it since 2001 and the Team can actually do what they try setting out to accomplish but the engine is definitely holding them back. I would hope that after this they sort of decide to think the enxt game through because a new engine wouldn't hurt them in all honesty, they have the team that can do what they can and they aren't new devs to the industry or anything, these guys practically brought Fallout up front and center to the other gaming crowds since the old days where the first two Fallouts were totally different games and were PC based.

Lack of modding would pose a problem though since modders are a keen bunch of gamers that love tinkering and improving the games they love, especially for other gamers in general, they are basically the handymen of the industry when devs can't do it modders can.

I don't give Bethesda a pass on this issue. I'd never buy their open-world game earlier than a year after the release, in fact I usually buy the GotY edition with all DLC on board. I think that if they are not capable of making games of such a scale work, they should scale them down. If you're not good enough to make something huge, limit the vision to something you are capable of achieving.

This is why I am happy they've decided to make Fallout 4 graphics simpler. They have to limit the bugs at all cost and if by limiting the graphics, they can make the game run decent and not crash all the time, I'll gladly take it. Nothing pisses me off more, than games crashing down on a console. To me, it kills the whole idea of a console. I understand crashing on PC, but not on a console.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I don't, not when I've poured a lot into my own build which is supposed to eat most games this generation completely alive. when that doesn't happen of course I'm going to get pissed, games crashing on PC isn't a thing that occurs to every single PC gamer 99.1% of the time though.

Yeah because all of that has everything to do with Bethesda game's being pieces of crap technically. Consoles have a bigger fanbase so of course they will complain (rightfully so) about a broken game. Some of us actually care about where we spend our money.
