100m is a lot of cash, assuming the number is true, throw in some more cash for marketing and you will get a very expensive movie to make. However, the game has been popular for a decade.

and I have no idea how many tickets you have to sell to make a profit so I'll just leave the speculation for someone else lol

I can't imagine it bringing in LoTR type crowds but I expect a lot better than most video game to movie adaptations, especially Resident Evil =P.

(I do like the Resi movies tho).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So my biggest problem with the trailer has nothing to do with the visuals or how it adheres to the source material. Instead, I'm worried that it looks just incredibly...clichéd. Like, if I didn't know what WarCraft was, I would assume this was just some generic, unoriginal fantasy movie. Based on the trailer, I feel like I've already seen this story done 1000x before. 'Two warring, seemingly opposite factions meet. War seems inevitable, good people on both sides try to prevent it. They must work together to bring both sides together.' It just seems so tired and played out already. Hopefully they did something to bring new life into this old story (and I am always hopeful because of Duncan Jones), but from what they showed in the trailer, it unfortunately doesn't look like it.

I can't say the trailer didn't ring any bells. I was instantly reminded of the knights of the watch and wildings plot line from game of thrones

It would be a shame if people did discount the movie because the plot seems simplistic.  I mean, there is so much going on and it turns awesome with the Nightelves and the Scourge and the dragons and the demons and a ton more.  Garona and Thrall are really good characters, too, who make the initial story more interesting.  It has a lot of intrigue and betrayal.  They just need to get people to get hooked until everything turns to hell and the real fun starts.

The CGI looks really good for the rumored 100mil budget. Green Lantern did much worse with twice that.

That said, the trailer hit pretty much every modern trailer cliche in the book, and failed to excite me on any level. I'm still planning on seeing it, as there are far too few high fantasy films out there, but damn.

I might finally return to WoW after 8 years...to see the movie =)
