Just making some weak maths.

200k Halo 5 Bundles = $100m (assuming all these bundles where sold in US because Euro is more expensive)

That alone down the record numbers to $300 million.

Now how many bundled controllers, limited editions, etc did it sold?

See how it works lol

If they sold 200k of those overpriced bundles week 1 it would prove halo 5 didn't flop. It's most likely in the 50k range very unlikely to be over 100k. So that would leave 350million. Probably take out another 50 for controllers microphones and micro transactions. So how is 275-325 million in 'game sales' a massive flop on a "dead" console.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

Halo 3 hours and "number of players"
More than 2.7 million gamers have played “Halo 3” on Xbox LIVE in the first week, representing nearly one-third of the 7 million Xbox LIVE members worldwide. Within the first day of its launch, “Halo 3” players worldwide racked up more than 3.6 million hours of online gameplay, which increased more than elevenfold to 40 million hours by the end of the first week,

Halo 4 hours and "number of players"
Halo 4” also shattered the record for the largest number of players in the history of the “Halo” franchise, with over 4 million players in the first five days. Users spent a total of 31.4 million hours playing “Halo 4,”

Halo 5 hours and "number of players"
Fans have logged more than 21 million hours of total gameplay, including 12 million hours in campaign mode alone.
For Halo 5 we get the hours but no "number of players". And if we compare those hours...

I can play this game too. Halo 3 had 3.6 million hours spent online. Halo 5 had 9 million.

Except that's comparing the first day of Halo 3 to the first week of Halo 5.... it's 40 million vs 9 million.
Actually they don't state the time span for Halo 5, but I doubt it wouldn't be up to date for the release of the statement.

I'm more interested in what the digital percentage of sales is for the fastest digital selling game. 20%, 30%, more?

This will be a very skewed number as well, because all of the LE edition and H5 bundles come with code redemptions for the digital version, and as such will come from the digital store.

"One week after launching worldwide, Halo 5: Guardians has made history as the biggest Halo launch and fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive game to-date, with more than $400 million in global sales of Halo 5: Guardians games and hardware."

I guess we won't be getting any straight foward sales data from Microsoft any more.

According a lot of people on this site it's a flop. LOL

I doubt anyone thought it was a flopped.  What they were saying is that it underperformed compare to other's mainline halo but it was obvious it is still going to sell millions.

I love how they can say SO MANY things... but don't give us sale numbers.

Have they ever given launch week numbers for any Halo game? Just a question because I don't know.

Apparently no, if what Ice linked is correct. That just makes it a little more funny. Like Smeags said, if they just say "oh, it sold 3 million first week", no one would come to make fun of the hilarous PR spin.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Of course no, the competitior's fans will use numbers if they are poor to bash all over the internet and people who are on the fence about getting an XBO will be less inclined to buy one if they see poor sales and a lot of people bashing.  That is why MS stopped doing it and its a good reason.

Just from that number alone the game easily sold 1.5 million first week.

I thought the source said it was like 150k physical sales?

then people on neogaf point out evidence from past games of the same genre, that digital sales are like 10-15% of the physical sales.

Basically First week from UK is : 150k + whatever % you think digital sales account for.

Most people assume this around 10-20% or so (usually its on the lower end).

If we re generous and give it 20% sales as digital downloads, that means its sold :

150,000 physical and 30,000 digital sales = total of 180,000 (with digital)

People on neogaf brought up earlier FW sales of halo games in the past from the UK, and even includeing digital, sales where down from past titles.

People have no idea what it sold digitally. Ms said its the bestselling game week 1 for Xbox store ever. So assuming it's on the lower end of the 10-20% range(got pulled from nowhere by the way) is nonsensical. For all we know it could be at 40%. Need u be reminded that digital gains market share everyday.

Halo would need to have pulled off something very differnt from other games that have launched the last past few years then.

Because other games of the same genre dont do 40% of sales as digital.

Its extremly unlikely that it sold that much digital. Basically its wishfull thinking.

The game is successful but since they included hardware sales in that figure, I'm not sure what to think. They didn't include hardware revenue for Halo 4 which probably means 5 made less money than 4, but that isn't surprising.

This doesn't really tell us anything about the game's sales.

This is one of those things with so many oddly specific metrics, it's hard to know what they're trying to convey here. Anyway, looking forward to NPD for actuals.

"the highest rated Xbox One exclusive, first-person shooter game of 2015, according to Metacritic."

LMAO. There are only two 2015 X1 exclusives.

its not even the highest rated. this is saying its the highest rated FPS they released this year. and its the only FPS they released this year. they might as have just said this is the highest rated halo 5 they released this year.

seriously, this is one of the most hilarious PR spins i ever seen.
