Forums - Sales Discussion - Destiny Hits 25 Million Players (Up 5 million in 3 months)

Activision Blizzard has revealed Destiny currently has more than 25 million registered users, compared with 20 million in May and 16 million in February.

The news comes as part of the company's official earnings report, with more information expected to come out of an investor call scheduled for later today.

The publisher didn't reveal how many accounts are still active, but players are averaging around three hours a day in the game, and it's also become the "most watched console game on Twitch."

More from the Earning call.

"On September 15, 2015, Activision Publishing and Bungie released The Taken King, the largest update to the Destiny universe yet, which was enthusiastically received by fans and critics alike. Day-one downloads broke PlayStation records, day-one engagement saw the highest number of active players in Destiny's history, daily player engagement is now well above 3 hours per day and the Destiny community has climbed to over 25 million registered players. Since its launch, Destiny has become the most watched console game on Twitch."

I'm guessing a lot of people gave away their copies of Destiny. Its useless for those upgrading to Taken King, so that could boost numbers.

Im wondering how this game has so many users with only like 11 million copies sold.It must be a pr spin saying maybe friends that came over and played the game created a new account.

Why am I not surprised to see downplay ?

Hmm, considering that the majority of the playerbase in Destiny consists of adults and that games in general are not traded in very often I highly doubt that more than 50% who own a copy of the game shared it with their peers ...

No, even if you have the Taken King DLC, you still either need a digital version of vanilla Destiny or the actualt game disc in your disc drive to play the new content. Those who had the vanilla game and previous DLCs bought the Taken King for $40 and still needed to keep their original disc around to keep playing.

for 1 it is on 4 platforms. 2nd that is just physical, destiny has a very high digital attach rate (they had really good digital deals last year a launch)

I would say 15 million is the basement for purchased copies.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Why don't they just announce actual sales numbers instead of how many people have played the game? -___-
