I'm pretty deep into the Microsoft ecosystem (everything except the Xbox) with my PCs, Surface tablets and Windows Phones, and earlier this year signed up for Office 365 for the unlimited storage. This is a bit of a trust issue with me, and while I won't be refunding my 365 subscription, I've convinced a few people to try Windows (Phones) because of OneDrive integration. Couple this with the lack of Windows 10 placeholders and OneDrive is much less of a selling point now for myself and a few others. And does anyone know how Microsoft knew that people were uploading DVR recordings and movie collections? Is that something they can find out without looking into individual accounts? Serious question because I don't know, and they referred to users with 75TB worth of such files in the blog post. |
There are probably just a few people with Office 365 over 50gb, so the one(s) with 75TB would be pretty easy to see what's going on. One would think they might be spreading viruses or something and look at the structure of the files.
I too hope they back petal (as they did a few years ago over a similar thing, but then they grandfathered some people.) This just seems like a bad PR move. Reminds me of when Apple had to fire Steve Jobs when we started going nuts - but the damage was done and they were going bankrupt anyway.
