It will probably be around 38m by the end of the year and 36M sold

Unless I'm missing something and Sony changed their forecast today, they are expecting 38.8million shipped by March 31st.

Edit: they indeed changed their forecast from 16.5million to 17.5million for the year, mah gawdddddddd. The PlayStation train isn't just continuing, it's accelerating!

wait for VR to take off, and all those "dreams come true" games.... its just getting started.

What in the world brought you to this conclusion? Besides your fandom ofcourse.

Maybe because when market was led by Playstation consoles (PS1/PS2 eras), those ended up being some of the best consoles ever ?
PS1 & PS2 game libraries are just golden.

What does this have to do with the market being better off with Sony leading? If it was the Xbox leading the market its library would be golden as well or even Ninty. What does Playstation bring to the table?

I really doubt that but we never know because they others consoles won't lead this gen.

PlayStation leading will always be the best for publishers, developers and gamers... it makes every part happy.

Now Kaz should get a pat on the back for this, huge task to get to profitability, and he hasn't shied away.

PS2 was out in Japan first for like 9 months. Launch aligned they are probably tied which means ps4 slowed down considering it launched bigger than both Wii and PS2.

These are launch alligned figures, meaning the same amount of months from the first available release date for each console. Which is the only accurate way to measure. Otherwise you'd be disregarding some sales. That one console was available in one region before another is not an issue here, unless there was still a stock shortage of PS2's after nearly 2 years, because everyone who wants the console will have picked one up at that point.
If someone who wants a PS2 was still holding out on getting one 2 years after it's initial release, then it's not because it launched in Japan 8 months earlier.

If we were talking 1 year after release, then that's a different story. But now it's nearly two years, and I don't recall PS2 having stock problems that long into its release.

Those are shipments not launch aligned figures. The PS4 has more quarters of global figures than PS2.

What lol? Omg sometimes I wish some people would just grow up. Last Gen should show you, the industry doesn't need anyone's leadership. The market is shrinking and all manufacturers will sell less hardware this Gen or are you conveniently ignoring handhelds? What significant 3rd party franchise is doing better this Gen than last? CoD is falling while GTA6 is years off. Those are the biggest 3rd party franchises right there.

These are launch alligned figures for shipments for each console after being out on the market for 8 quarters.
Launch alligned doesn't mean sold through figures. It's just a way to measure a statistic. In this case, the number of shipped units. It can also measure sold through, rented, sold back to BestBuy, or anything you want. It simply means that the calculation is based on the same amount of time tranpiring from the first day the consoles released anywhere.
After being out on the market for 8 quarters, PS4 has shipped 29.30m. After being out on the market for 8 quarters, PS2 had shipped 24.99m.

Does the ps2s first quarter include global figures or Japan only?

Numbers disagree with you.

Which numbers disagree? 7th Gen is outpacing 8th Gen. I'm sure you have an excuse for that. Which 3rd party franchises have done better this Gen?
