Course you don't need tomatoes to make a pizza. It's a staple though, and I love tomato on my pizza, but there is BBQ pizza and this one you have looks good too ; )

Isn't BBQ sauce made from tomatoes as well though?

this also

very very rarely will people eat a pizza that does not contain some elements of tomato. even BBQ often has components of tomato. obviously the term 'pizza' refers to the circular pie/bread but as an overall dish its thought of as with tomato

Just because a boat can drive on the street, a car it does not make. Same with Pizza, it's toast with cheese and other pizza toppings, but it's not really a pizza.

You need tomatoes, that's the ingredients that makes pizza, pizza. I completely agree that pic looks delicious but it's just a glorified cheese on toast. The fact is pizza is bread tomatoe and cheese, then with your own toppings.

this

the reality is that 99% of pizzas have cheese and tomato sauce on them. obviously there are going to be exceptions for anything but in general a pizza is thought of as a food that does in fact have tomato

posting a picture of essentially a sort of cheese bread that looks appetizing does not change the general consensus of what pizza is and always has been

Pizza was created centuries before tomatoes reached Europe, so it has always been made without them.

While the pic from the OP does look like a big piece of bread or toast and would probably benefit from tomatoe sauce, a pizza without tomatoes can be done in a much better way. I advice everyone to try out a pizza according to the recipe I gave earlier. The ingredients complement each other so well there, the sweetness of pancetta and aceto balsamico is truely a treat for the palate. When I ate it first I didn't even notice there was no tomatoe sauce on it, my girlfriend told me afterwards that she was shocked a pizza without them can taste so good and I was like "whaaat? There were no tomatoes?". Everything goes together so well there, that I didn't even notice

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Sriracha sauce does not contain tomatoes, therefore pizza does not need tomatoes.

I know of 2 pizzas from 2 different places that use no tomatoes. #1 Irish pizza from the Copper Kettle. Uses pesto as a base instead of tomato sauce. #2 Pierogy pizza from Trifon's. Uses sour cream as a base. I'm sure there are more, but those are 2 I know of, and have tried. So no, I suppose you don't need tomatoes.

The real question is: Can you make pizza without cheese?

I think every pizza needs tomato sauce.

A trend for alot of the pizza shops (big and small) are replacing tomato sauce with garlic sauce instead with alot of their new pizzas. And I find it literally taste a whole lot better than tomato sauce based pizza.

So yes you don't need tomato sauce, but I find cheese is more essential for making a pizza.

Isn't that a style of Pizza...? o: I think there was a pizza I had where it was just a ton of tomato sauce and no cheese.
