Didn't Steve Jobbs die of colon cancer and he was a vegan?

No, that was Iwata. Jobs had pancreatic cancer, and followed Ornish diet (as a treatment), which was a bad idea.

Sooo you're saying the five meats Genoa sub I just bought might be bad for me?

I guess I'll just eat half now, then, and save half for ten minutes from now. Should help.

Just because someone is vegan doesn't mean that they can't get cancer, just their chances are lower. Many other factors to consider for causing cancer besides just what we eat.

Yeah, any article that's going to include phrases like "aggressive stances against meat", "strong conclusions" and "lethal concerns" is only out to oversensationalise. I read the same story (more sensibly reported) in the Metro (free newspaper around London) yesterday. It included more details about what levels would be considered dangerous, and which processed meats had a higher risk than others, and that unless you gorged yourself with huge amounts of the higher risk meats on a daily basis for a long period, then really, not to worry.

(Edit after reading full article) - Oh, they say that there, too, and also talk about the chances being small. So they've gone from 'lethal concerns' to 'don't worry about it too much' in the same article. Still a non-story, then.

Coffee:
Meta-analyses have suggested that increased coffee consumption is associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer including deadlier forms of high-grade prostate cancer.[141][142] Coffee consumption does not appear to be strongly linked to the risk of developing endometrial cancer.

Just don't eat red meat all day and keep your healthy mix>more veggy stuff and very few sugar. Somehow that's something my grandma knew already...

Exactly... I love how these multi-million reserches often state the obvious. Dont eat/drink anything in excess and you should easily pass the avrege life expectancy.

Most 'westernized' people eat to much meat. And to much sugar...

So there's that.

On the other hand, is eating meat unhealthy? Well, Inuit originally ate tons of meat, actually raw meat. And they where pretty healthy. There's tons of vitamins and stuff in raw meat. And they ate tons of fat. Low carb-no sugar though.

So maybe it's not only what we eat but how we eat it.

Then there's stuff like the ecological footprint.
Cows eating grass thus stimulating grassgrowth and especially rootgrowth>good. Helps keep CO² in the ground (basically the roots), nice for the landscape blabla...
Cows eating soy raised on former rainforest>baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

The former one makes large scale mass production a little bit more difficult and expensicve. So you'd probably not be getting your 1 pound of something for less than a $/€. Might be having a happy liffe though.

Now for the vegans:
Frugans live unhealthy. And that bastards only eat plant embryos, disgusting, not? ^^
Vegans need alternative products. Some are basically known to be unhealthy and usually not produced in an ecological way.

So about the ultimately superior ethics of black/white views of the world veggies, it's actually 100% BS. Sorry to say that.
On the other side of the fence, the i wanna eat my ton of meat fraction gets an F-grade too.

Taking a global look, there's 7 billion people on this dirt ball. Eating a little less meat would mean there's more corn, soy and so on for people that actually need it. At least as long as that stuff doesn't somehow get in our fuel tanks. Not even talking about all the food we throw away.

Forgot something? Ah, yes. Guess i'm in the matrix, i've seen that discussion before, over and over again.

Reason why there isn't more corn, soy and so on for people who need it is because the people who need it is people who don't have money to pay for it. There's huge overproduction of food, and still people die in hunger. Humanitarian aid is just dumping (some of) the huge surplus somewhere anyway, and in part works as a way to make sure things aren't getting any better. More free food west keeps dumping, the harder it is for the local farmers to compete and the cheaper Monsanto et al is able to buy that is sold with a good margin in the west.

There is only one nutrient that is needed that cannot be obtained from plant-matter. So what alternative products do vegans "need" and not just want? Vitamin b12 is it and can be obtained in many ways, none of which are unecological.

Well shit. I guess I better stop eating bacon, burgers, steaks, hot dogs, sausage and all the like so I can adopt a diet of the more healthier GMOs and so the sun slowly gives me skin cancer as time goes by.

Apparently, Processed and Red Meat are in the same carcinogen class as sunlight and smoking.

The classification doesn't take into account the risk factors such as smoking increasing your risk by 2500 and meat by like 5, but rather the actual chemicals are confirmed carcinogens.

Incorrect. I use Moringa leaf for B12.
