Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda WiiU: Aonuma hopes to provide a "kind of twist" to open world games with new Zelda

- Eiji Aonuma spoke to IGN about Zelda and open world games. He said about some of the previous feedback for Zelda Skyward Sword:

“We actually had some feedback from Skyward Sword, where people were saying, 'This is not exactly the Zelda game I was looking for, I was looking for a bigger open world.'"

- he then teased about how the open world in Zelda WiiU may work:

“Unfortunately, I can’t go into details but I’m hoping to put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game. I hope that you’ll look forward to it.”

- on the fan feedback about what they want to see in Zelda games, he admits the development team reads comments and suggestions, but says:

“If we put all the feedback the fans write directly into the game, there won’t be an element of surprise,”

“If there’s a comment and they’re asking for certain element, I would think, 'Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn’t expect?' That’s how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game.“

Is there room to shake up the open world genre? If yes, how do you think it could be done?

How can Nintendo give a twist to open world games with the new Zelda?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I had a theory of a cool game mechanic that the Villain of this game hire some sort of bounty hunter or so that hunts Link down, and you can actually encounter him at anytime during your playthrough. Its an increidbly smart AI that just doesnt appear in story events but is a part of the game itself. and that mercenary is always hunting you by tracing and stuff. Would be really cool to be suprised attacked

Sort of like Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 and the Nemesis in 3.

Oh Gosh, Aonuma. I don't want any open-world twists, just give us release date and any info.

His view? Okay, everybody in the world has a sword except Link.

Finally something about Zelda U! :)

I would love ALTTP twist in true open and big Zelda world, we have normal world like they showed us in December, but also dark version of that world, all again some time traveling mechanics that would make that same world completely changed, similar to OOT.

And that's been Nintendo's model for the past 10 years and look where it's got them. They are now the least popular console maker and hasn't created anything worthwhile since the GCN days. Sure, they have their handheld side and Mario Galaxy for the Wii, but only a few good games in the past 10 years? Just goes to show what a hell of a comapny they used to be to live off of their legacy for so long.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

fan feedback ... spemanig wont like this

If Nintendo had only few good games in the past 10 years then other publishers didnt have any. :)

On the contrary, they still making great games and some of the best games in industry. But Zelda is special, it cant be compared with any other Nintendo IP (or any other IP at all).

Just what I was expecting him to say: nothing at all.

They could have said something more interesting, it's been almost a year since they last showed something.
