binary solo said: You are getting totally the wrong end of the stick. Nintendo is doing this to themselves it's not being forced on them by anyone. Nintendo is free to ruin it's own work and while you are free to call Nintendo a bunch of dicks for doing it, Nintendo is merely exercising its rights do change and modify it's games as it sees fit. Although, it is an issue if these decisions end up hurting the sales of the games and/or having a negative impact on hardware sales. Though at this point, it's hard to think Wii U hardware sales could get worse from these sorts of decisions. At worst the games won't increase hardware sales, but I doubt if these games were released in their original form they would do much for hardware sales anyway. If Nintendo wants their next console to have a much broader base of gamer support then they need to release these games without nerfing content. These decisions merely play into the perception that they are positining themselves as kid / family friendly in the west and therefore don't adequately cater to the interest of the generality of gamers. Whether that is right or wrong, these game nerfing actions just feed into that perception. |

I think FFV might be more of a case of Nintendo not wanting people such as that con artist Anita and her entourage giving them bad press.
I hate censorship. I want the full experience of what the developers intended, of what the culture where the game came from. Screw the prudes that have decided to censor stuff that is not even banned.
If we were talking about material that would be a crime I understand, otherwise why the hell the censorship? People should be able to decide for themselves or the parents should be able decide.
IMO it's capitalism getting in the way of 'art' and yes I use the quotes but it still fits. In the pursuit of higher sales to the unwashed masses I must suffer an incomplete game which in the end cases me _not_ to buy it.
Tumblr, soccer moms, and useful idiots aren't exactly a good combination.

Fatal Frame 5 may still have the lingerie. There is a dlc button that doesn't appear unless the game has dlc.
As far as I'm aware, the United States actually has less censorship compared to other countries. At least, on the federal level. There are still several companies (Such as Nintendo of America or Apple) who will remove content for "censorship" reasons. Most likely to maintain a positive image among people who want to pretend that bad things don't exist.
Personally, I'm rather indifferent in regards to the examples you gave. But censorship is still censorship, and I'm not really a fan it. Since censorship can be abused to compromise Free Speech, or make us forget history.

You could call it censorship I guess, or you could call it a business decision. I associate censorship with decisions that are made to control what kind of content the general public are exposed to. Like if the government were enforcing this move on Nintendo. This isn't that. This is Nintendo deciding what kind of content they'd like to be associated with in the West.
If it was something I really cared about that they changed, I guess it would bother me, but these changes are very neutral and non-meaningful.
Because the country is still run by religious fanatics. I hope they would just naturally die out within the next few generations.
