Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN: Star Wars actor walked away from Uncharted 4

Star Wars: Rogue One and Firefly star Alan Tudyk has revealed he was originally going to lend his pipes to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

"I worked on Uncharted, the one that has yet to come out - I was doing a role on that. Really, I hadn't seen [Nolan] since he and I had recorded years before," he began.

"I liked it... they... ummm... they fired... ummm... [lets out a massive sigh] I left, I quit! [laughs] So, I didn't like it. I mean, I left because they decided to go a different way with it and so when they did that, when they changed leadership, it made my contract null and void and I was able to take that opportunity to walk away which was great because I got the experience of doing it, I made some friends - not with Naughty Dog - but I made some friends with the people that left.

"Todd Stashwick was in that as well who is in Con Man and he did the same thing I did which was 'yeah we're gonna leave now. Y'all are making some weird changes, we're gonna leave'. Sorry Nolan, we left you, we just walked away, we abandoned him."

Weird.

So the games company made some changes to their game which I presume meant re-scripting and they "Y'all making some weird changes, we're gonna leave now." Seems professional.

Hmm, pie.

Business as usual.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If they changed his character to the point where it no longer resembled the part he thought he was going to play, which of course I don't know but could well have been the case, how is it unprofessional for him to say no thanks I don't wanna play that role?

I don't know what exactly happened at Naughty Dog, but it sounds like it was pretty ugly. Amy Henning left for Visceral, 2 voice actors left, I think some other devs may have left as well. I believe I heard previously that a substantial amount of work on Uncharted 4 was completely scrapped as they started over from scratch.

It was all 1 thing, either because Amys work for UC 4 was bad or because Neil and Bruce think too highly of themselves (or both things together) they hijacked the project from her wich made her leave the company alongside some devs who disliked this move. Neil and Druckman changed a lot of what was written for UC 4 and that caused the 2 VAs to leave (as they said after the change of directors theyre contract was void, so they could leave or be let go if either part felt like it). Fast foward 2 years and we have UC 4 almost done being released next year. It may be a masterpiece, it may be great, average or suck but we will never know what it couldve been if it had kept Amy at the helm.

Yeah. I think the story behind that game will honestly be as interesting as the one behind MGSV.

If UC 4 turns out to be great it might become normal police to fire your game director before the game launches lol.
