Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is your favorite game genre?

Gaming is a notably diverse hobby. From different controllers, to different dimensions, to different art styles, there is a very wide variety of experiences one can have. And of course, perhaps the most categorical aspect of gaming would be the genres they belong in.

Each genre comes with its own strengths and weaknesses, in addition to loyal followings. What would you say is your favorite out of them all?

Action/Adventure

Horror

RPG

Shooter

Strategy

Racing

Party

Platformer

Fighter

Sports

Simulation

Of course there are several genres that I neglected to picture above, including puzzle, hack & slash, virtual novels, etc. as well as subcategories for certain genres, such as the distinction between JRPGs and WRPGs, kart/arcade/sim racers, TPS/FPS, etc., so those can be specified as well!

As for my favorite, I think I'd have to go with platformers. I've always found them very satisfying to play through, especially 3D ones.

Hmm, my taste greatly varies.

I can be playing a fighting game like Smash one second, then I can be playing an RPG like EarthBound.

If I had to choose one genre, probably action.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

3D action platformer.

Probably Action/Adventure. Also, beautiful OP! Congrats.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

The only genre I don't really like that much is "party". If I have to pick one as my favourite, I'll say action/adventure.

RPGs and Strategy games are my preferred genre, though I like challenging platfomers a lot as well. I'm certainly not picky though; shooters and sports games are the only genres I generally don't care for.

RPG or more specifically JRPG

Simulation with RPG elements (Rune Factory) is also really fun, as well as strategy and action adventure

My favorite is probably RPG. Love everything about them.

Through most generations, I would have said turn-based and strategy RPGs, and it's still one of my favorites, but FPP RPGs have probably taken the lead.

Fallout, Borderlands, Deus Ex, Elder Scrolls, and Far Cry have become the franchises I look forward to the most. It's not necessarily that I don't like JRPGs as much, it's more that they stopped making them as often or as good. Persona 5 is my second most anticipated game (behind Fallout) but I'd kill for another Suikoden or old-school Final Fantasy.

Platformers. I love them so much.

RPGs are a close second but only turn-based ones.
