Forums - Microsoft Discussion - If you think about it, the original xbox was ahead of its time besides xbox live.

Look at the original xbox games.

Halo, Half Life, Counter Strike, Doom, Morrow Wind (Besetheda Games), ect. You can trace the most popular games today to the original xbox in some sort of way. Halo paved the way for fps online multiplayer games that we see all the time. The best selling RPG is no longer JRPG, but WRPGS which Besetheda games is leading the way. Valve needs no explaining. Sure a lot of these games are on PC, but Xbox made these games more popular on consoles and the popular games we play now was first on the original Xbox or their roots can be traced back to the original Xbox games. Kind of cool if you ask me. Also, thanks to the original xbox, Western games are leading the way now while it used to be Japanese games.

Yes it was. It was almost a half gen ahead of the PS2 and Gamecube imo. PS2 had a superior line up but hardware wise? Not even close.

To be honest, I enjoyed the ps2 more than xbox, but looking back it paved the way to what games we are now playing.

You mean 3rd party devs put their pc games and other games on the original xbox. *shrugs*

Weren't some of those games originally on PC? I dunno, it doesn't seem ahead of its time... It did popularize some things, but it was not ahead of its time... : /

Pretty sure Doom and Counter Strike predate Xbox by a long way. Besides I didn't even know they were on the system despite owning one myself, same with Morrowind actually.

As for the other stuff, it seems to me the Xbox 360 was MUCH more important for those than the original Xbox.

Pretty much this.

But the games made their debut on the original xbox and actually first time they made games easy to port from pc to xbox. The games on the original xbox paved the way we play games now.

Also, I did play half life on ps2. It was good, but half life 2 was miles better in every way possible.

Pfft NES was ahead of its time. It had a 2D Platformer and then in 2009 the Wii had NSMB Wii which sold nearly 30m... yeah, thats like 24 years ahead of its time

You sure about that? I can't find any evidence of Half Life actually releasing on Xbox. So... it was a PS2 console exclusive?

I was refering to second one, but it still the biggest game valve ever made and it was what made half life really popular.
