So when are you guys renaming New York back to New Amsterdam?

Stupidity is getting out of hand.

Personally be fine with the day not having any holiday at all, but I get the sentiment of Indigenous people.

Anyone who defends celebrating Columbus baffles me. He was a monster. He murdered and raped and enslaved thousands. He did nothing out of bravery, he did it out of greed and malice.

You are right nothing will ever make "right" the imperialistic attitudes that led to mass genocide of native peoples across the Americas. All we can do now is be respectful to people and never forget what happened.

I can sympathise with the decision, however attempting to erase history may also lead to unintended consequences.

I don't generally really like any celebration of a particular demographic simply because it is exclusive thing to do and while it may seem empowering, can also swing the other way and be dividing. It's not something that will ultimately lead to more inclusion and this seems to be becoming an increasing problem for the US now through what is becoming a seeping resentment.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Plus he thought the Earth is much smaller than it is.

Wat

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The Portugese knew better, hence going around Africa to Asia.

Columbus did have a profound impact on history. He tied Europe and Africa to the Americas and began a massive exchange that forever altered all three continents.  I just see no reason to celebrate him because he was an awful man that tortured and murdered people for sport.

He was a purely terrible person. I don't know what it should be changed to, but I say change it. I'm not celebrating such a person simply because that's the way we're used to doing it and it's too hard to get used to change.

I didn't even know there was a Columbus day. I'm quite sure he didn't discover Alaska anyway.
According to Google it should have been Vitus Jonassen Bering day.

This is wrong.I mean, its great as a respect to the indigenous people that live there, but why rename a day with historical meaning? Why not just name another day for that.I find it very wrong to try and erase history just to be political correct.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
