Considering we're seeing a great deal of remasters this gen, unlike previous gens, I would expect you'd be used to seeing new things, at this point.  May seem like massive overkill, but it doesn't really appear to be mattering.  Sony's basically printing money w/ the PS4, and have yet to do any serious 'wrong' this gen.  People who want to play the collection, will buy the collection.  People who don't, won't, and there are plenty of 1st party titles from earlier in the year, plus major 3rd party releases this holiday to cater to any new buyer.

Which is a point I think you're not really paying attention to either.  The holiday season is really for new hardware buyers (it's when the best hardware deals are available).  These new buyers, have an entire years worth of titles to pick and choose from.  Families will undoubtedly know the hype/desire for Star Wars/Fallout etc..., so those bundles will be popular, and then additional software will flesh out the holiday purchase.  I also think that given most of these titles have already reached profitability (the stuff released earlier in the year), that it's easier for them to discount those titles to make them more attractive, rather than discounting brand new releases.

You say there's plenty of 1st party titles earlier this year but what if someone doesn't like Souls games? Or wants more than a 7 hour campaign? What's left? God of War III Remastered and Tearaway?

Yes new people buy hardware in the holiday but it shouldn't disregard the people who might have already played and traded those games. I don't really see Holiday as the "Buy old games" season but the "Big AAA game release" season. While the older games are usually an afterthough.

Well, I don't know about you, but when a device doesn't have games I don't enjoy, I don't buy said device.  It's a pretty simple way for consumers to vote with their wallets.  And, if current sales are anything to go by, it's not Sony who has to worry about anything.  It's their competition.   And I use that term generously, since 'competition' insitinuates a fair fight.  And this isn't meant to 'nettle' you or anything, but the fact is, Sony's only real competition right now is themselves, and ensuring YoY sales are up.

Oh well, if you guys as fans are happy with that so be it.

In the context of the concerns you raise, I'm the absolute last person to talk to about this.  I own a PS4 for GT7, likewise, I bought a PS3 at launch for GT5 (And no, I didn't mind the length of dev time on GT5, and I don't mind however long it takes them to get GT7 out.  I prefer to get the games when devs are done,  not when the publisher/hardware-maker or fans demand it). The rest is/was quite literally gravy.

However, take me out of the equation and looking at current reality, Sony is doing more than fine, and it really can't be argued.  I don't think any company would be particularly bothered by winning 10 months of a year in NPD, and non-stop victory WW since launch.  I mean, there may not be games you find enjoyable, but clearly going by software and hardware sales, many people are quite satisfied.

Since when has being second place in the charts ever been bad?

Cause UK chartz position doesn't mean much thing(the first place is an old game and not a new release for example). That means uncharted was not able to top in its first week the legs of game that came out weeks ago.

Since when was success based on beating Fifa?  I mean Fifa... which the artcle states lead for like 6 weeks straight last year.  Why is Uncharted's succuss based on taking down the biggest game in all of the UK?  Its not.  Don't fall for it man.

Because again the chart position doesn't matter,RAW numbers matter. If Uncharted first week wasn't able to beat Fifa's legs that means the RAW numbers are not that big and if the numbers are not that big then it's not a sucess(at least in UK).

Raw numbers...

FIFA 16 PS4 version was 422,550 first week. Assuming PS4 dropped at the same % as the overall drop then that would mean it was 109,863 2nd week and 45,043 3rd week. Assuming the same is true of the Xbox One version which was 338,040 1st week that would put it at 36,035 this week.

So Uncharted NDC would be in the range of 36k-45k
To put that in to perspective...
Bloodborne's 1st week was 41,421 (VGC)
Mortal Kombat X (PS4)'s 1st week was 42,908 (VGC)
Splatoon's 1st week was 17,749 (VGC)
Rare Replay's 1st week was 18,316 (VGC)

So while it certainly isn't record breaking or anything it's far from bad. It beat at least 2 of those games, possibly all 4 of them. So it did well, unless you're saying Bloodborne and Mortal Kombat flopped as well?

This. Thanks for putting it into perspective.

Have you any idea how big Football is in the UK? Football in the is to the UK what the American flag is to the US.

The PS5 Exists.

First off people who have no clue how big Fifa is in the Uk should not comment on a UK sales thread. Every single year COD and Fifa are numbers one and two in yearly sales despite coming out at the end of the year. The only thing close is GTA, it is as simple as that. Secondly UCNDC launched on the 9th, so this is one days sales.

FIFA 16 released on the 24th.

Yeah well I was talking about Super Mario Maker.

So, what game were you saying didn't outsell a month old game (Super Mario Maker)?

Over 90% of the games released won't beat the 3rd week of FIFA in UK... it sold over 100k for sure... most UK releases don't do that in week 1.

Uncharted Collection did 43-52k.
