A rumor from financial sector indicates that SNK Playmore is now closing their Pachinko business. (Their hugely successful Mobile business and their popular fighting game IP development will continue.)

It seems that Chinese company that bought off SNK Playmore decided that keeping IP clean worth more than producing money through Pachinko. The King of Fighters is very popular IP in China, for very... Complicated reasons.

In related news, apparently Japanese government is planning to introduce harsh regulation on Pachinko and related gambling business in preparation for incoming Olympic.

SEGA still have their game development team relatively intact, while Konami pretty much fired all of their talents AND Hudson's talent.

How do you feel about this?

How do we feel about what exactly? You link us to an article that 99.1% cant read.

I don't know that it matters. It's not like a good, solid business can have several things going at once. Pachinko isn't why a developer starts sucking to begin with. Sony had other things, Microsoft has other things. Square can make good mobile games and good console games.

Please translation. The only word I can read in japanese is kawaii (the katakanas are man throwing out the garbage, door opening, slingshot , slingshot).

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

Most Japanese companies are digging their heels in and hoping Pachinko machines will go back to generating stupid profits but mobile pachinko has made the machines largely irrelevant.

Sega took a massive loss this year for the same reason, their game division has been in a small profit for a few quarters now, but the executives there as well are pumping out machines still, stubbornly refusing to admit that pachinko is not only at deaths door, but about to head into the crematorium oven.

Either way, I really hope SNK's Chinese new overlords are better than the buggers who have ruined them since the rebuild around 2003. They need to put some proper games out and consistently keep the quality up like they did in the late 90s.

Long live SNK. Metal Slug on 3DS please. I might just have to go back to Metal Slug Advance which was unique considering it had a health gauge.

The article solely talks about SNK Playmore leaving the pachislot bussiness, not much else really.

Konami and SEGA are never mentioned (SEGA doesn't do pachislot anyway, that's Sammy)

The bit about pachinko restricitons due to the olympic games, while are indeed true, aren't mentioned in the article either.

Apart from them leaving it just mentions how SNK just released a couple of machines and how there's another one prepared for later this year, but apparently that'd be it and they'd leave the industry by the start of the following year.

Sorry about not getting the source about Olympic game, I initially wanted to talk about SNKP, then my stupidity took over.

Sony still has other things too. Don't know if you intentionally wrote had for Sony and has for MS, but if you did, just wanted to let you know that's not quite true.
