Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox One sells better than PS4 in Latin America (2014)

I can assure you that Brazil has a lot more owners Ps4 than owners of Xbox One, the gray market of the country is HUGE very Huge, I 'm seller Consoles and games here in the region of São Paulo ( Brazil ) and I sell much more Ps4 games and Consoles on the gray market in the region . I swear.

It's the same here. The grey markey is way bigger than the official one and if you go to the main stores is all about PS4/PS3 and pirated copies of Wii's games. But anyway Microsoft hasn't even launched the xbox one here. I reckon the majority of consoles/software sold are going to the US numbers since that's the country where everything is import from.

I'm really pathetic and have no friends. Please excuse the trolling message that used to be here, I don't know any better.

If we just consider official channels, I quite expected these results in Brazil, due to fiscal reasons, having a production plant there favours MS and in Mexico, due to close commercial relationships with USA, but I didn't expect it in Argentina. Initially I thought the numbers didn't add up, but Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, despite being just three of the many countries in Latin America, include a very large part of its inhabitants.
I too expect this to change as soon as Sony starts or licenses local production in Brazil, finally avoiding monster import duties there.

It is all the governament's fault ridiculous that country, putting thousands rates on games, in addition to consider the games as gambling in order to tax MORE and MORE on games, Oh Yeah and fill the pockets of corrupt politicians with embezzled money, it is very ridiculous it all, OH and before I forget to tell these days ago announced several new rates now upon digital content such as Netflix, Steam, Hulu Plus , etc, I'm lucky I'll leave Brazil and go to Dayton, Ohio in the United States in three years , but until then I'll have to put up with these abusive fees that SHIT government .

This is really a good news for Microsoft!
Maybe because the PS4 is so expensive in Latin America.

Its because off the tax regime in brazil thats why the xbox one is the best selling console in the region. They manufacture xbox ones in brazil which lowers the taxes. Sony will soon manufacture ps4s too in brazil and create more jobs.

This is a pretty distorted truth.

The "official channels" say what it needs to be said.

Here in Brazil, by far the biggest market from Latin America, official channels are not the biggest incoming of sales from consoles, the grey market is prevalent to it, and the PS4 is the best selling system, from the 8th gen, there.
It's the most self marketed system, which means retailers and people advertise by themselves it pointing a higher interest on the system.

I can't say for sure, but I don't think other countries around here are much different.

To add more to it, I don't know a single person, personally, that owns a XBO, while I know a couple that have a PS4 and just one of them got it from an official channel.

You can look up into web stores to see the PS4 listed firstly both as the system and as the software part, you can ask retailers and they'll say the interest in the PS4 is much higher.

So in the end, at least here in Brazil, even if the XBO does have the biggest official sales number, it's the PS4 that is in the most gamers homes, and the most popular system.

I'm curious.

Did you read the article?

Be honest.

What's with these random groupings? I mean some Latin American countries are also a part of North America so what's up with that? Why not just do North/South America? Likewise with Europe, why is that split up? What's western Europe? Does it include Italy/Greece and the like or not?

Cultural versus geographic. Latin America are Spanish, French, and Portuguese countries.

Western Europe to me was divided along old cold war lines.

Yeah, I know what Latin America is. But why group it that way? That's like a continent and a half and even excludes some of the countries that are part of South America & the Caribbean simply because they speak English/Dutch instead. Meanwhile western Europe is less than a half of what is already one of the smaller continents. So why enlarge one region and make another smaller? Is it simply to make Latin America look better than it actually is?

Good question.

It's just the way I have the data set up because the reports I have access to split the data that way. It's a lot easier for me to use that data rather then guestimate the whole of Europe etc...

Yes I did, though not all of it.

I'm curious if you read my post, because I reckon it's about official channels numbers there, were it simply doesn't represent well how the market works here, even it does mention the lack of possible data due to the grey market sales.

The fact that this thread title is "XBO sells better than PS4 in Latin America", at least here in Brazil, where I addressed my post to, is simply a distorted truth, because it does not, thus why I made my post.

Ok.

Well the reason I asked is because I mention everything you talked about in the article. Twice in fact.
