Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox One sells better than PS4 in Latin America (2014)

Thats... so different from the actual truth... in my country all this years for over a decade this has been mainly a PS land, xbox coming in second and Nintendo a distant third (unless we are talking about handhelds which do sell well over here).

Truth is the grey market is really STRONG over here, and there arent many "official stores" there are mostly unofficial stores that buy the consoles through big retailers like Amazon US and then they resell those consoles here at a higher price, (which is sometimes even cheaper than the price of official stores), those stores (which are the vast majority here) are the main medium that sells the consoles, (since its cheaper than the official stores) and since they are not even counted the information on the article must be really far off from the actual truth.

Not to mention i know there are MANY like myself who buy the games through Amazon US and then import them since its even cheaper than buying the games and consoles in the official stores over here.

oh and to be clear my country is Colombia.

This is a pretty distorted truth.

The "official channels" say what it needs to be said.

Here in Brazil, by far the biggest market from Latin America, official channels are not the biggest incoming of sales from consoles, the grey market is prevalent to it, and the PS4 is the best selling system, from the 8th gen, there.
It's the most self marketed system, which means retailers and people advertise by themselves it pointing a higher interest on the system.

I can't say for sure, but I don't think other countries around here are much different.

To add more to it, I don't know a single person, personally, that owns a XBO, while I know a couple that have a PS4 and just one of them got it from an official channel.

You can look up into web stores to see the PS4 listed firstly both as the system and as the software part, you can ask retailers and they'll say the interest in the PS4 is much higher.

So in the end, at least here in Brazil, even if the XBO does have the biggest official sales number, it's the PS4 that is in the most gamers homes, and the most popular system.

Okay so XBO sold more put ps4 is more popular in Brazil.

I think what the user was saying is that Xbox One sold more globally in Brazil's official channels; however, PS4 sold more globally in Brazil.

....Or would this be a case of Xbox One lead Brazil, but PS4 sold more globally in Brazil.

English is my second language, would the second one technically be correct? I'm not sure if I fully understand this globablly in the ____ phrasing.

I think Brazil is 50/50 including the gray market

X360 was the most popular console in Brazil (even beating PS2) due to the piracy. A lot of gamers like me, moved to the XBone because of the experience with Xbox Live and stuff

I'm not surprised, though I'm not even sure how to count PR, seeing how we are a USA commonwealth and part of Latin America, so I do not know where do they put us, but anyway :v Atleast seeing how things are here this doesn't surprise me much.

Here in PR, PlayStation and Nintendo have fallen into the small market fraction of otakus and those that grew up with them, meanwhile Xbox has taken the mainstream thanks to CoD and Minecraft. The Wii and DS sold good as everywhere else because of the casuals, but the PS3 here really didn't shoot up after the super slim version came out, before that it usually stayed as the go to console for otakus and those which grew up with them giving them some brand loyalty. Though that is the case here, I wouldn't be surprise if things are similar in the other area of Latin America :v

COMG guide to points: 1 point = Raging. 2 points = Beasting. 3 points = Tearing it up. 4 points = Berzerk. 7 points = Rampage. 12 points = Burst. 15 points = god mode. 20+ points = DIVIDING BY ZERO!!! 40+ points = Youkai (originally Pokemon).

-1 = Negabeasting. -5= NegaRampage. -10 = NegaBurst

Instead of Japan, Microsoft really need focusing on Latin America, maybe we will get a new type of genre from Latin American developer, instead of JRPG or WRPG (examples). Hell even Brazil has many good game developer. If Microsoft can invest on that area, Gaming will be more rich and not just to focusing on 1st world country.

I can assure you that Brazil has a lot more owners Ps4 than owners of Xbox One, the gray market of the country is HUGE very Huge, I 'm seller Consoles and games here in the region of São Paulo ( Brazil ) and I sell much more Ps4 games and Consoles on the gray market in the region . I swear.

(=^・ω・^=) Kuroneko S2 - Ore no Imouto - SteamMyAnimeList and Twitter - PSN: Gustavo_Valim - Switch FC: 6390-8693-0129 (=^・ω・^=)

Undertracked.

The deal with Latin America (read Brazil here as I cant speak for other countrys, but Brazil is the biggest market), is that the official PS4 price here is stupid expensive and XOne isnt, so ppl buy tee official XOne and get theyre PS4s from the grey market (meaning they dont actualy show on the numbers, they count as USA or Europe PS4s), but there are throngs of PS4s selling here.

Pretty much this. This has always been the case, for a long time ppl believed Brazil to be a smalll market when it comes to videogames, them they cought on what realy goes on here and started investing, Sony knew no one would buy a PS4 at the official price but there was not much they could do cause of abusive Brazillian taxes, they released it anyway officialy here for marketting reasons, they dont care much if theyre selling trought the official market or the grey market cause it means theyll sell software either online or imported anyway, the amount of stores you go and see PS4 peripherals and software flying off the shelves here is amazing considering the official number of PS4s sold here is ridiculously low.

The grey market thing affects even XOnes to be honest, it affects it less tough but most of the XOnes are also grey amrket material here. Looking at that graph showing consoles sold, its hilarious to even think that Argentina actualy sells more consoles than Brazil a coutry that has over 10x more population and that is economicaly more developed as well, the number of consoles sold here is insanely undertracked, consoles sold here are counting under the USA number mostly.
