Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony may consider "options" for smartphone unit if no profit next year

I'm really pathetic and have no friends. Please excuse the trolling message that used to be here, I don't know any better.

Sony invented the Walkman, it's really unexplainable that since the rise of MP3 players (where it arrived surely late, but still many years before Apple), despite still producing some of the best portable devices of the various kinds, it suddenly unlearned how to profit from them. The same happened with TVs, surely Sony accepted too late the end of CRT, being overconfident in its Trinitron tech, but when it finally surrendered to reality, Korean competition wasn't so strong yet to not resist its attack. Many things extremely wrong must have happened in management and marketing from then on, because the tech side kept on designing and producing good products (even the cheap ones, a Sony DVD burner I though broken was just malfunctioning due to a rogue game DRM that kept on messing up optical drives drivers, and after many years it's still working in my mom's PC, that I assembled mainly with salvaged parts from my old ones).

Sony do generally make really good products. They must have a damn good QC department and I still regard them as a premium manufacturer. I certainly don't want them to walk away from making mobile phones or TV's or anything really because I generally think a Sony device is a good device.

I even still have my first HD TV, a 40" 1080p Sony LCD as my main Living Room TV and has been used on average 5/6 hours a day since October 2007 (yeah 8 years) and absolutely nothing "touch wood" has gone wrong with it. Can't say that about many TV's.

You will probably find that most owners of Sony Mobile phones "love them".

I just hope they can find a way to keep on going while keeping up the quality and still make money.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

Put all the funds into a vita-phone please

Is the PlayStation brand the only "section/part" of Sony that is selling/doing great? But then again, the Psvita is part of the Playstation brand.

And yet the unit as a whole makes profit despite the vita loses. Their financial sector, camera, musicsectors are profitable too

Everyone has been screaming at them to stop making smartphones but they had to keep losing money to learn.

And for those saying "what a shame, they make great smartphones", you are clearly out not a gadget freak

SONY first multiple attempts at making smartphones were disastrous. Too many Xperias and all of them were behind the competition in Specs, cameras and software support. Then the Z line was introduced 2 years ago, that was one of their first good smartphones but it definitely wasn't great. Z3/4 are among the best now but it's a tough market, you don't get to screw up too many times and for years and expect consumers to keep coming back. There are other smartphones manufacturers that have been consistently great ,with a lot less mishaps on their smartphone-making journey, that deserve to do better than SONY, and better than they are doing right now, yet they are not. So yeah, no sympathy, good luck somewhere else, SONY.

Hey kaz if there is no profit dont be afraid there is the ps4
