This will be a real shame if Sony stopped making mobile phones. They certainly make some amazing phones.

The main problem is that the market Sony are finding themselves is getting smaller by the year. The premium/luxury mobile phone market is first and foremost split between Android and iOS, it looks like iOS is making more inroads into eating into that market more than Android is at the moment. Whatever marketshare is left is split between Android manufacturers who provide phones classed at premium. That is getting more populated with the push in from other manufacturers that werent around a few years ago. Hence there is less going around. I don't think it will be long before we have a handful of manufacturers in the Android space as there just isn't enough money being made.

Maybe Sony should partner with Google for their next Nexus phone or move to Windows.

^ god no.

Stick with android, and just compete on design.

But not for luxury feel ect, make it a gameing smart phone.

The "natural" progression of where handhelds (like the 3DS/Vita) future lays.

Even if it meant the death of Sony phones, you wouldn't want them to go Windows? They can cut a deal with M$ and get free Windows 10/Phone liceneses. Which is good for their VAIO line also.

What actually went wrong with the Xperia Play?

Sony's marketing...... Samsung is the king of marketing cellphones, sony just doesn't market them..... They market PS so well, I dunno why they don't market the xperia phones

I think Sony should just follow what Xiaomi does. Dont bother with ads, dont bother with store distribution.

We are at the point that the ppl who want an Xperia will buy it directly from an online Sony store. This will allow the devices to be cheaper too since you are cutting out a big chunk of other spending areas that contribute to the overal price point of the phones.

I actually think Sony can keep Xperia going, even if only on a niche market, this way.

That's going to involve a LOT of layoffs.

Sony sold their VAIO line last year. They only have a minority stake in the VAIO Corporation.

I will buy the Z5 Premium when its out. I really hope they can shrink their business and make it profitable really soon. Going to windows could be a option but only if they didn't stop android. They should also create a store of their own and build up a library of unique apps to differentiate from others and maybe later have a go on their own OS. i don't think its to late for that... is it?

Good Bye, and **** You Xperia.

These POS devices are not deserving of the Sony name in the first place. Sony Mobile is a complete joke, and running over Me Too OS Xperia is direct competition with PlayStation's ecosystem.

Kaz needs to tighten the ship up and get development going on a PlayStation Mobile line, like yesterday. With PlayStation branding, and designed around a One Sony OS, and the PlayStation Network, Sony can put itself right back in the mobile game.

The Xperia Play was a device forced on Sony due to their partnership with Ericsson. Sony did not want Ericsson having any part of the PlayStation unit, so they did not give the devices full PlayStation Network support. In fact, they created a whole new store called PlayStation Mobile, which they again, wanted nothing to do with.

The XP never saw any PS One games, PSP Games, or any SCEWWS games released on it. Even MLB The Show did not come out on the device. It was basically sent out to die.

Sony has never released a PlayStation Phone through Sony Computer Entertainment Incorperated (SCEI), the company branch that handles all PlayStation products. They need to merge Sony Mobile Comunications Inc. (SMCI) the Xperia division, into SCEI, and diliver a one Sony ecosystem. Right now they are working against each other, and that hurting both division substantially. Sony needs to focus on it's PlayStation OS's, and PlayStation Network services, bringing them above or on par with Google, Apple, and Microsoft.

Please make a Sony Windows phone! I like their build quality a lot.

They should probably just sell the Ericsson unit. Seems to worked out for them giving up on Vaio.

It is abosolutly not to late to jump to their own OS. They should be putting themselves in position right now, by having all of these companies bring their apps to PS4 and Vita instead of the current trend of PS4 and PS3. The only way forward for Sony is, for Sony to take matters into its own hands. They already got burned once by trying to run a business around an OS that competes with PlayStation (See Vaio). They need to end this ASAP, and not make the same mistake twice. They are perfectly capable of competeing with Mac/PC with PlayStation Home Devices, and android/ios with PlayStation Mobile products.
