Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Plans 'Horizon Zero Dawn' Program

Gaming studio looks to license upcoming title into toys, apparel and more.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is now seeking licensees for its upcoming new video game brand "Horizon Zero Dawn."

The game will be presented to the licensing marketplace for the first time at Brand Licensing Europe next week, in advance of its release in Q4 2016.

The action role-play game has been developed by Guerrilla Games, creators of the globally successful "Killzone" franchise, exclusively for the PlayStation4. As the female protagonist and skilled hunter Aloy, players explore a vibrant natural world inhabited by mysterious mechanized creatures.

SCEE is looking to bring the brand to a number of categories including toys, collectibles, apparel, accessories, publishing and stationery, with the consumer products program planned to launch alongside the game in Q4 2016.

“'Horizon Zero Dawm' presents an incredible licensing opportunity," says David Evans, European licensing manager, SCEE. "The epic feel of the game, its breathtaking visuals, strong character development, imaginative combat sequences and the marketing weight of the PS4 release all combine to make this a hot property for 2016. Guerilla Games have created a lush post-apocalyptic world that players simply won’t want to leave, and licensed merchandise offers consumers a way to extend that extraordinary experience into their everyday lives.”

Nice, seems like they are really confident with it.

I could never understand why they didn't do this sort of thing with LBP.

Yeah, I know several people who wanted Sack Boy plushies and couldn't really get them. Uncharted could have had a Johnny Quest type of show if they really wanted and toys etc. God of War may be too late to do this sort of thing but could have worked really well.

They should do a "tie in" anime for The Last Guardian.

In fact you should be able to shop for this stuff on PSN store. Would boost sales a lot IMO.

One thing I was convinced Sony would do, considering they work in the movie and TV industry, is make a childrens program with Sackboy and voiced by Stephen Fry. It could have become as big as Postman Pat or Thamas The Tank Engine.

Yes and kids tv is usually easy money cause they are always looking for something new and different.

I think they used the voice of "Daddy Pig" from Peppa Pig in Tearaway.... My kids loved that!

I would actually like them (Mm) to use Brian Blessed in a game and suggested it to them on twitter. Rowan Atkinson would be another favourite of mine.

My youngest actually watches Pocoyo which was narrated by Fry, it could work very well with LBP.

Wow, they seem confident that Guerilla is going to deliver.

Yes, they'd fit the LBP universe nicely. If they ever wanted a replacement for Stephen fry, I would suffest Stephen Merchant.
