Always nice to hear devs listen to the fan's feedback. Also, saying that they'll make the best 3DS RPG is a pretty bold statement, they'll need to put their all to attempt surpassing Awakening.

It is a bold statement, but if anyone can surpass Intelligent System's Fire Emblem Awakening, it's Atlus.

It's a nice goal and when you work towards those goals, especially if you work hard towards them, they can be achieved.

I have high hopes for this one.

I do too. I'll have to play SMT IV before the next one comes out, but I'd like to finish Devil Survivor first. I love JRPGs, but I'm so bad and slow at them XD

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Devil Survivor took me almost 50 hours to beat. I love it so much but the second, Record Breaker is so much better.

SMT IV only took me about 35.

So they're radically revamping the combat system then, specifically how hitting a weakness also grants an extra turn?

Best RPG on the 3DS? A high goal, but I think its possible. SMT4 is one of the better 3DS RPG's already, and if a few major shortcomings are fixed, Final could be one of the best RPG's in recent years.

Wishlist

  • Deeper Main Characters
  • Less Confusing World Map
  • Steadier Learning Curve
  • Connections to the original SMT4
  • Incorporate Morality into Gameplay
  • Better Quest Management
  • Further Develop SMT4's four-way morality (Law vs Chaos and Hope vs Despair)

Love and tolerate.

Hmm, what would be considered the best RPG on the 3DS? Fire Emblem maybe? Well, if that's the case, I think I'll bite this again...

Etrian Odyssey 4 and/or Untold 2.

Morality was the worst part about SMT4. The game would be better without morality at all. Seriously, that's what fucked up like 60% of the game's problems. The stupid Law vs. Chaos gimmick.

All they really need to do to make this one of the best rpg's on the 3ds if not the best is two things

1. fix the smirk system way to easy to abuse by both the player and AI doesent need to be taken out of the formula just tweaked so that it is not as broken.

2. overworld navigation now it may seem like I'm blowing this out of proportion but I honestly dont feel like I am. the overworld that you navigate that isnt text based (not nameing out specifically for spoilers), was an absolute mess. I only ever got the gist of the map down 40 hours in but just barely. heck if you asked me how to get to any location in IV right now I honestly couldnt tell you I'd have to watch a walk through to get any where thats how confusing to me it felt.

if those two issuse were addressed I'd honestly say that the only other games that could even rival IV:final that year for best rpg of 2016 would be other atlus RPG's like Shin megami tensei X fire emblem and persona 5 (unless dragon quest 11 comes out then all bets are off).

Weird that people keep bringing up Fire Emblem, as that's an SRPG, not a JRPG like he's referring to.

Like, it's made in Japan, but it's an SRPG. He's talking about traditional RPGs like Tales and Bravely default. There real competition will probably be Monster Hunter Stories, though.

Nonsense. Getting railroaded into wiping out all of Tokyo, and/or throwing humanity to the (literal) wolves, all because you like red more than blue is a perfectly legitimate way to design a game!
