I'd recommend cross followed by suikoden 2.

Im going to reccommend Suikoden 2, because it is considered one of the best games on ps1(though i never played it) and since I never heard of Wild Arms and I dont hold Breath of Fire franchise that highly, and Chrono Cross is not that great, and really a dissapointing game if you compare to Trigger.So yeah, your best bet is Suikoden 2 in my opinion

Theres a new game mode, after first time through.... and even without its a decent length game.

Well worth the time spent though, you ll enjoy every secound of it.

I know you said you didn't want something long, but have you played Xenogears yet? If not, you must. ;)

Wild Arms is a gem. I will recommend that, and then Chrono Cross.

Xenogears is on my list, sadly not available on my PSN store, so it might take a good while to me to play it.

Well I definitely recommend it. Best PS1 RPG in my opinion, up there with FFIX and Wild Arms. If you like Chrono Cross, then you should definitely like Xenogears(the same people at Square were responsible for both.) I prefer Xenogears a lot more than Chrono Cross, but many people rank them equally.
