Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation Plus and Games with Gold: Their fault or our greed?

As a way to counter Xbox Live, Sony had the creative idea of offer two games per platform for it's subscribers of PSN.

The service turned out to be obligatory due to its quality: Killzone, inFamous, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite were some of the games offered. After some time, Microsoft copied these policies with Games with Gold.

With PS4, Sony had predicted that AAA would suffer: the costs for making games were getting higher and higher resulting in less AAA games per year, but she didn't want it's players to have just a few sparse games, because it would affect its sales, so Sony heavily supported the indie community.

I thought this was a great idea because most of these games were exclusive to PC, however now we have all the best games on PSN and Live.

The community, however, it's very unhappy with both services. They still expect AAA games, not indies.

I can't follow their desires. I was so happy with Tim Shafer's Broken Age and Super Meat Boy. Both games have amazing reviews both on Steam and Metacrits, however the community treat like it's some poor developed mobile games. Why's that?

So... Your thoughts? Am I happy with too little or does the console gamer's philosophy needs a serious change?

I agree with you for the most part. People expect way to much for how cheap these services are

Consumer greed at this point. Many people expect Sony for instance to constantly release AAA titles every month or every few months on PS+. People simply don't understand that launch titles are still selling for Sony and handing them out via PS+ at this point in time is MONEY LOST. It's not a smart move, and they aren't doing it.

We'll see them in time, but it'll take quite some time for the library to build. We could have online only with no incentives at all though. I would love to see the complaints if that returned.

Be careful not to conflate the community and the vocal minority. Subscription services have an easy complaint system, simply don't renew it. PSN also is not PS+, Sony just swiped online multiplayer under PS+ rather than PSN to get more subscribers, since it still cost the same.

The parallels between XBL and PS+ and PSN are the greasiest example of competition in this industry. Both positively and negatively. The two services are virtually identical now, to the point that its hardly a selling point.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

If you don't like the games, don't subscribe
If you want to be subbed because of online play but don't like the games, then choose a platform that doesn't charge for online; don't choose one that does and then whine about it.

Sounds simple to me. People just like to overcomplicate things for drama's sake
There are no free lunches. If something's too good a value, it's not going to last forever because it's not sustainable.

Well lately I don't really see Xbox gamers unhappy with the service. The last few months was AC IV Black Flag, Ground Zeroes and Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. While 360 still got AAA's. And starting November, Xbox One will receive every 360 GWG game from now on through backwards compatibility. While still getting its 2 games a month. Xbox gamers aren't complaining.

Where to start... Should i say "People buy PS4 console just for service so-called PS+ free games monthly, how cheap."? No, i shouldn't say that.

It's their fault, just simply ignore the lineup, go outside, be a hunter. Hunting deal daily/weekly/monthly, offer and discount games.(or go search on Amazon site)

Yeah, lately I don't see Xbox gamers complaining too, but they do seem upset when indies are offered on GwG.

I think both communities want AAA or AA games regularly, but I still think it's unfair how bad these games are being treated.

I mean, people wanted new creative IPs. The PC Gamers spend a lot more money in hardware and still play these games, so why console gamers think it's so inferior?

I have no complaints about Games With Gold. PS Plus seems to get worse every month.

It's their fault. They gave very good quality games for quite awhile. They gave us the expectation that that would continue. So if they are failing to meet the expectations that they themselves provided then it is nobodies fault but their own.

See, the way I see it, the service started with small games, so we had low expectations. Then the games got better, so our expectations rose. Now they got worse, so it's time to adjust them once again. Most logical people will other do that or simply let their subscription run out.
