That being said, Nintendo has made some BIG mistakes and will hopefully rectify them with the NX

I hope so too.

No surprises here, this gen will be worst Nintendo gen, but with next gen Nintendo will be back again.

Nintendo's brand has taken a lot of damage in the last 5 years. There's no doubt about it. When you make this many mistakes, there are consequences to that.

NX will be in an uphill. Hopefully they forget their stubborn practices and adapt to the new times.

When it comes to releasing a console in 2016 (2017?), with Sony/PS4 and MS/XB1 at their respective peaks, meeting and adapting to the standards of now isn't good enough. They have to set the new standard. It's part of what killed the Wii U, and it'll kill the NX before it launches.

Currently (Re-)Playing: Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void Multiplayer, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Currently Watching: The Shield, Stein's;Gate, Narcos

Surprised Google is #2 and Apple is #1 o.O. Expected Google to be higher than Apple due to Android, Google search engine/maps and Youtube lol.

Nintendo not being in the top 100 isnt surprising considering the sales of the WiiU and other mistakes/mishaps they've had.

Do people worship google like they do Apple? Are there websites created for the sole purpose of google worship? Will people go to the streets and weep when the founder dies?

Apple is the most powerful brand on the planet right now. They are on a whole other level.

Not surprising they have their lowest selling console and handheld of all time.

I can't see Nintendo ever recovering tbh.

Their name is not the force it once was for the younger generations, most Nintendo fans are probably in their 30s now. They're becoming like Atari, something that used to be cool.

Most of Nintendo fans are in their early 20's, not 30's. Yes, there's alot of 30 somethings such as my self who are fans, but most of my peers quit gaming when they hit high school because back in my time, gaming was for kids. By the time Sony made gaming "cool" for high schoolers, my generation was growing up. Most of the people I know from HS don't even game anymore and haven't since the SNES/Genesis.

The Dreamcast didn't fail because it was a bad console, it failed because of the damage done to the Sega name by the 32X and Saturn.

Not only has the Wii U has done serious damage but so has the Wii. That Wii audience moved on to phones/tablets, they don't care about Wii Sports/Fit anymore. The traditional gamer who bought a Wii was essentially forced to get a 360/PS3 due to the shovelware released on Wii. They were burned and won't be coming back.

Nintendo have lost two audiences not just that casual one. All thats left are the diehard fans who remember the glory years of the Entertainment Systems.

Now the most depressing part of this as someone who just enjoys his games regardless of what plastic box they're on is this...

Zelda will flop. I don't mean 500k flop but something in the region of 1.5-2m. For an open world game and Nintendos biggest ever game in terms of budget etc it basically won't make money.

Now what makes Nintendo money? Outside of Mario. Pokemon and Animal Crossing spring to mind. Games that could easily be done on phones.

Nintendo have already gone 3rd party imo, its just been very subtle. Once it hits home that phones are where the money is and games like Zelda just aren't worth the bother anymore you'll see a very different Nintendo.

Would they even bother with Zelda on PS or Xbox? Would it be worth it? They could be another Konami in the making.

While I do agree that there was alot of "hot air" during the Wii/DS era, I honestly think that Nintendo actually can bounce back. They just have to take a different approach going here on out, such as branching out and giving their IPs more exposure.

The Zelda example is feel is a bit hyperbolic though. It will easily sell(and surpass) 2M. It's honestly the most hyped game I've seen in regards of the Wii U everywhere I look.

The mobile thing is really just Nintendo (again) wanting to branch out with their IPs and approach new (and old) customers. The only reason they can really even do this is becuase the actually have brand power. The same can't be said for other publishers who jumped on the mobile train (or at least not as much as Nintendo).

Also I fail to see how anyone can be as bad as Konami at this point. Nintendo is still actually making games and not turning Zelda U into a pachinko machine.

They aren't exactly relevant beyond their Nintendo fans so it's no surprise.

When you go from 100 million consoles to struggling to hit 17-18 million in a span of 5 years ... you've fucked up. Somewhere. Somehow. You done fucked up, as they say.

If that happened to the iPhone (they lost 85% of their audience) everyone on Apple's board would be fired.

rarely do ppl mention how nintendo went from 20m GCs  sold to 100m Wiis sold and when they do then theres a stupid reason why the Wii sold 100m and somehow that doesnt even count because reasons..

Do you know at what number Nintendo was during the GC era?

No?

Then your comment holds no value. Nintendo's recent screw ups are on both handheld and console fronts. The 3DS is selling poorly compared to the DS and there's no need to point out the Wii U's performance. Never has this happened to Nintendo before. Bringing up past achievements isn't going to make the brand look good now. What was isn't necessary going to represent the now or the future.

Im sure with theme parks, Mario motion picture, Amiibo figures/cards, smartphone gaming (especially Pokemon), QOL, and new hardware on the horizon, Nintendo will be very much a stronger brand going forward. They will certainly be reaching a much larger audience again
