Forums - Gaming Discussion - how can DMC devil may cry have a higher metacritic score than 4 on new gen? is Metacritic biased towards Japan?

20€ and the better game to the majority of fans and consumers

40€

edit:

i think this proves metacritic is biased towards japan after having more debate about that in this thread. Read my posts and the replies if you want to understand the arguments. DMC4 special editions would have gotten a better score and tons of other japanese devoloped games if japanese review sites would be more represented

DDMMCC is a finished game.

I mean, DMCdmcCMD is shit, but that's why it got better scores. The game had a lot to improve on, which they did, and the end product is a finished improved game.

DMC4 HD is an HD 60fps remaster of an already HD 60fps game with few other noticeable improvements, especially not the little issue that the game wasn't fucking finished.

Because it's a great game?

Never have I been so confused about the game acronyms.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Going from past experience, when action games like this are judged by critics, less emphasis is placed on the depth and complexity of the mechanics than most fans will, while more emphasis will be placed on stuff that fans generally don't care as much about (i.e. presentation, graphics, narrative, etc.).

DMC4 probably will never get a particularly high MC rating because it's (sadly) very much an incomplete game. The core gameplay is quite good, but it's still only two thirds of a finished game, and even that might be being generous. DMC4's SE didn't really fix any of this; it just added 3 new characters that you get to play half a game over with and some mods that PC gamers have had for years.

DmC, while (imo) having a far worse combat system and a god awful story, at the very least is a finished product. It's a broken, messy, finished product, but the game is at least complete. It also helps that DmC SE fixed a lot of the complaints people had with the gameplay; hard lock on exists, color coded enemies are now at least vulnerable (if not stun-able) from different colored weapons, the style system isn't quite as broken, etc.

So far, the only DMC game I have played is DmC on PC. I thought it was excellent, but all I see is hate for it. It was very fun and was aesthetically gorgeous. Also, that virtual reality newsman boss was so cool. I look forward to playing the older games in the series.

Hi

I get the point and I agree

(Anyway I am curious why are people saying DMC4 is an incomplete game. I played it on ps3 many years ago and I do not know what are you guys reffering to )

Missions 2-11 (one's just a tutorial that really doesn't even count) are going through a series of areas playing as Nero. A city, a castle, a forest, and a military base. Missions 12-17 are going back through those exact same areas as Dante in reverse order. Mission 18 is a boss fight, mission 19 is re-fighting almost all of the game's bosses over again, and mission 20 is the final boss.

Basically a LOT of the game is recycled. If memory serves, Capcom cut down on DMC4's development time by a full year or so. Probably has something to do with it.

I guess it's preference.

eh DMC4 came out rather early last gen and that's exactly what it feels like.
I prefer the newer one.
