Forums - Music Discussion - Just finished Gurren Lagann. Again.

I watched it about 12 times for one reason or other. Not including the movies or OVA's which I watched once.

Kill la Kill is also really good. Its overall meaning isn't at deep as GL, but one thing that made it really good were its ties to a bunch of real life stuff that you could both clearly see and were both covered that you really had to know yourself. I never rewatched it, but I did end up rewatching a ton of scenes just to get the references.

Ninja Slayer deserved its hate. GL powered me through KLK's over the top sexualization(which paid off by episode 3), and those are both powering me through NS. The plotline can be really good, and there's a good amount of jokes about anime in general based on its poor animation at times, but overallit could and really should be better for such a melodramatic story. Though its kept my attention.

Little Witch Academia is like Trigger meets Studio Ghibli

Around the Network

The only stuff I rewatch is Gits, Lain and Madoka
Well and Yuru yuri but that's like rewatching a silly home video or the simpsons

I don't think either "deserves" a place among the best animes of all time, though that depends on how big a list you would make, but I found Kill La Kill simply more entertaining.

I think it does. It would depend on how big the list is. I just think the epicness of the series elevated it. Each individual episode kept adding new characters and expanding all the way to the finale. While the first half when they're all kids and everything is friendly and fun; the tone turns in the second half when they are adults and actually having to govern the world and figure how to run things. A bit more serious.

The cross of these tones is one of my favorite aspects of it. Almost like two seperate anime's.

I'd put it in my list. In a top ten it'd probably be somewhere in the higher half 5-8.

Don't even know if I could come up with a top ten best animes for me personally, at least if I'd only do shows and no movies. I'd always read more manga than watch anime.

It'd probably be something like

1. Neon Genesis Evangelion

2. FLCL

3. Cowboy Bebop

4. Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

6. Toradora

7. Nichijou

8. K-on

(Geez there really is no internal logic behind what I like or dislike in anime)

Everything after that is kind of a blur that I don't feel confident enough to rank this way.
