Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon company sues fan for unofficial Pokemon party

In my opinion it's excessive.

The first thing I've read is "massive pokemon fan".

Would it be different if he did that same party in anyone else's cafe?

Would he become rich just for the money he'd make in a one night party?

TPC looks stupid for me, it's not a big event we are talking about, it's not Madonna/Beyonce or Justin Bieber singing Pokemon songs in their concerts and earning millions in a single day. Was it really that big to even sue that man?

I'm sure TPC must have better things to worry about than that.

Around the Network

Free advertising? No thanks, here, take a lawsuit. Pokemon and Nintendo really have a problem with others talking about their products...

What the next step? We won't be able to talk about what we did in Pokemon Go?

Do people really believe this news will generate negative PR that will be of any concern to the Pokemon brand? How amusing, 90% of Pokemon fans or more won't even be aware of this case and wouldn't care either.

JK Rowling did something similar to a fan of Harry Potter and that had no impact on the franchise.

It is the internet these days, sad state of affairs. The Harry Potter thing most likely happened past the last couple of years, and on top of that, book audience aren't as easily outraged by corporations compared to gamers unless the author is getting screwed.

At the end, this is case that party was happening using unlicensed content that was being used and created revenue (as little as it may be), something that is against the law.

Wouldn't a C&D in this case be a bit more appropriate? Nintendo & The Pokemon Company go way over the top when it comes to this stuff, I feel like it hurts their brand more than it helps.

They sent a C&D letter and he complied, the BS thing is that the pokemon company didn't stop there, they continued to go after him for damages. Crazy thing is $4k is a tiny tiny percentage of the total cost of this litigation, so not only have they created negative PR, it's cost them way more than they get out of it.

Does the pokemon company REALLY need those $4k? Was the lawsuit justified? Arguably yes, but i mean come on.
