So they're going with engine studios that bring in monetization of gaming, rather than new games?
Appears to be a withdrawal.
Like, "it's worth more to us to make money on your games, than our games"
Just a thought.

Yep, I couldn't help thinking that myself. I look at their lacklustre bundles for Christmas, their acquisition of this and Minecraft and think 'this could be it you know.' Make money, not games.

Oh dear, I could not help thinking you are using this opportunity to stealthly bash on MS :)

There is nothing in what you are saying that makes any sense... Microsoft is acquiring an engine studio (like DirectX), release a lot of nice bundles for the end of year time and acquire one of the most successully game in the past few years and this really makes you think that they could be done with it?

Really guys, sometime your hopes......

It's always about making money. Even Nintendo with their "games should be fun philosophy" wants to make money. People sometimes seem to forget that at the end of the day, gaming is a huge business.

Good, maybe they'll deny the competition the engine. Like they deny Minecraft from the competition after they bought that. 😌

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Good for them. Now let's see how they use it.

Nvidia is probably not happy about this news.

So microsoft making money from every uncharted sale now lol.

Seriously though, I don't see the need to buy companies seemingly willy nilly to push the cloud. Microsoft used to be that company that created. I'm sure a tactical partnership would've been more effective and a lot cheaper here.

A lot of microsoft acquisitions have turned out to be bad, such as skype, nokia and aQuantive, so hopefully they don't mess this up

Luckily MS is doing both!

Before people start losing their tits over this; remember that businesses don't live inside a bubble that includes rage over console wars. This acquisition while big, likely changes nothing for current developers including Sony and Nintendo. Businesses compete with one another, but they don't deny themselves business either.

For example; Sony sells Apple camera sensors despite competing with them with their xperia product line.

what is a xperia? some sort of digital camera?

It was just something that crossed my mind, not something I would fully invest in as a probablity. It's just one of many ramifications that I'm currently considering, including the obvious of it just being a straight forward acquisition to help with development. I don't tend to hold onto one idea when I'm unsure, I tend to let my thought processes free and see where they take me. After I've visited several places and considered them dead ends or groundless, I'll hone in on what I think it possible until I receive further information. Speculation is amorphous and should never be viewed in a two dimentional way. That leads to conflict and not the desired free thinking which interest me far more than the more concrete facts that will inevitably follow. Dreams is a perfect example of what I mean by this. I find the journey of speculation as interesting (or even moreso) than the actually destination because it engages my creativity and imagination rather than just stacking data.

So, no, I'm not taking the opportunity to bash MS.

The PS5 Exists.

Does this mean we are finally gonna get a new Sonic game for XB1. : )
